Senior Estimator and sales support (remote)

Raven Engineering Group specialises in water storage tanks, engineering, installation, refurbishment and maintenance projects across Australia.

We’re looking for a highly organised estimator with excellent communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.

Your main responsibility will be preparing accurate quotations and budgets, clarifying project requirements and supporting our sales team. We need someone who works efficiently, asks the right questions and follows enquiries through without constant reminders.

You must be confident reviewing drawings and specifications, working with Excel and communicating professionally with Australian clients and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate, clearly presented quotations, cost estimates and project budgets using Excel.

• Review drawings, specifications, attachments and relevant email correspondence before preparing a quote or requesting information.

• Complete material takeoffs and allow for labour, freight, travel, accommodation, equipment and subcontractors where requied.

• Identify missing or conflicting information and prepare clear, project specific RFIs. Avoid generic questions or asking clients for information they have already supplied.

• Obtain supplier pricing and confirm specifications, availability, lead times and quote validity.

• Clearl document the scope, inclusions, exclusions and assumptions behind each quotation.

• Check quantities, formulas, rates and margins before submitting quotations for approval.

• Manage multiple enquiries and quote revisions. Meet agreed turnaround times and flag delays before deadlines are missed.

• Maintain accurate pricing records, estimating spreadsheets and enquiry notes in our systems.

• Follow up with clients and suppliers and keep the sales team informed of progress.

• Prepare a clear handover of accepted quotations, including the budget, scope, commitments and outstanding items.

Communication and attention to detail

Strong communication is essential. You must be able to understand what a client needs, ask precise questions and write clear, natural email s.

• Read the full enquiry and supporting documents before responding.

• Tailor correspondence to the actual project.

• Respond promptly and make the next step clear.

• Be confident speaking with clients, suppliers and colleagues when a call will resolve something faster.

• Check names, dimensions, quantities, specifications, attachments and pricing before sending.

• Raise uncertainties rather than guessing or making unsupported commitments.

We need someone who can produce work that requires minimal correction. Speed matters, but quotations must remain accurate and complete.

Improve how we work

We want someone who improves our estimating processes as well as handles the daily workload.

This includes maintaining reliable costing templates, improving pricing records and reducing repetitive administration.

You should be confident using ChatGPT and other AI tools to review information, prepare correspondence and improve productivity. You must check AI output against the source documents and calculations before relying on it.

What we’re looking for

• Proven estimating or costing experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing or a similar industry.

• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, lookup functions and the ability to build, check and maintain costing models.

• Exceptional attention to detail and consistent accuracy.

• Excellent written and spoken English. You must be articulate, professional and confident communicating with Australian client.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and project scopes.

• Strong commercial judgement when reviewing supplier pricing, costs, margins and exclusions.

• Fast, reliable turnaround and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

• Confidence using ChatGPT and other technology while applying your own judgement.

• Pipedrive and experience working with an Australian business are highly desirable.

• Initiative, accountability and consistent follow through.

You should not need repeated reminders to respond, follow up or complete a quotation.

About the role

This is a remote position working with our Australian team during agreed Australian business hours.

We will provide training on our products and estimating processes. You will need to bring strong estimating fundamentals, Excel skills and communication from the start.

Performance will be measured by quotation accuracy, turnaround times, clear communication and reliable follow through.

There is an opportunity to grow into a broader estimating and sales role as you develop your understanding of the business.
