Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Utility Engineer to support the planning, design, coordination, and construction of utility infrastructure associated with transportation projects. This role will provide technical leadership on complex utility engineering assignments, including utility investigations, relocations, conflict analysis, design development, and coordination with utility owners, public agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of transportation infrastructure and utility systems, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities

- Lead utility engineering activities for transportation projects, including highways, roads, bridges, transit facilities, and related infrastructure.

- Manage utility investigations, field assessments, subsurface utility engineering coordination, and existing-conditions documentation.

- Identify and evaluate utility conflicts and develop practical relocation, protection, and mitigation strategies.

- Prepare and review utility plans, profiles, relocation plans, design details, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents.

- Coordinate with electric, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, and other utility owners.

- Support the development of utility agreements, permits, memoranda of understanding, and relocation documentation.

- Coordinate utility design with roadway, drainage, structures, traffic, environmental, right-of-way, and construction disciplines.

- Provide technical guidance and quality control for utility engineering deliverables.

- Review plans, specifications, estimates, schedules, and contractor submittals for utility-related issues.

- Participate in project meetings with clients, agencies, utility owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.

- Assist with construction support, utility relocation coordination, field observations, and resolution of utility-related issues.

- Support project managers with scope development, fee estimates, schedules, task management, and client communications.

- Mentor and provide technical direction to junior and mid-level staff.

- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, agency requirements, and project-specific criteria.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program.

- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in utility engineering, transportation design, infrastructure development, or a related field.

- Experience supporting or leading utility coordination for transportation or public infrastructure projects.

- Strong understanding of utility systems, utility conflict analysis, relocation planning, and utility owner coordination.

- Proficiency with engineering design and documentation software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads, or equivalent platforms.

- Ability to interpret survey information, utility records, engineering plans, design standards, and construction documents.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- Experience with technical writing for proposals, guidance manuals, training curriculums, and research
