Wholesale Commercial Insurance Broker;

National – Digital First Platform – Real Time Rate, Quote & Bind

Compliance at iBynd + SEMSEE has outgrown a shared responsibility. This is a full-time ownership seat. The Compliance Manager will inherit a functioning compliance program across multiple entities and a real book of carrier and vendor relationships, and will be responsible for taking both to the next level: tightening the program and putting the foundation in place for the next stage of growth. This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to the COO, working in close partnership with Finance and Accounting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
COMPLIANCE PROGRAM OVERSIGHT

- Take full ownership of the existing compliance program and mature it across both iBynd and SEMSEE entities β€” written policies and procedures, training, monitoring, internal audit, producer oversight, anti-fraud and AML obligations, and the compliance committee cadence.

- Identify compliance gaps, prioritize them by risk, and close them. Define what 'good' looks like for this company at the next stage of scale and put the controls in place to get there.

- Oversee state regulatory and licensing across all operating states β€” entity licenses, producer/P&C licenses, and surplus lines broker licenses β€” ensuring the company's full licensing footprint is current, accurate, and audit-ready.

- Provide tax compliance guidance in partnership with accounting, ensuring state-by-state obligations, surplus lines tax filings, and applicable programs are properly maintained and overseen.

- Partner with Accounting and Finance on premium trust and fiduciary account compliance β€” segregation of premium funds, agency-bill and direct-bill reconciliation, carrier bordereaux and producer commission accounting, and support for financial statement, carrier, and regulatory audits.

- Work with outside tax advisors on the entity-level obligations that follow the licensing footprint β€” state registrations and nexus, apportionment, franchise and gross receipts filings, and 1099/1042 information reporting for producers and vendors.

CONTRACTING & CARRIER RELATIONSHIPS

- Support our Carrier appointments, binding authority and program agreements, reinsurance treaties where applicable, MGA arrangements, and the full stack of vendor, partner, and technology contracts.

- Serve as the primary initial point of contact for carrier counterparties, MGA/MGU partners, and third-party vendors on all contractual and relationship matters.

DIGITAL PRODUCT & PRIVACY LEGAL SUPPORT

- Work closely with the COO on legal review of the company's digital platform with particular emphasis on privacy obligations, AI/ML governance in underwriting, and data handling practices.

- Own the company's privacy compliance program under GLBA and applicable state privacy laws, ensuring policies, notices, and data practices are current and enforceable.

- Partner with the technology and product teams to build legal and compliance requirements into new platform features and data initiatives from the outset.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
β€’ 6–8 years of compliance experience

- Direct insurance industry experience is required β€” insurtech, MGA/MGU, wholesale broker, or carrier. Insurtech or digital-first distribution experience is strongly preferred β€” we want someone who has done this work where the platform, not the paper file, is the system of record. This is not a role for a generalist looking to learn the industry on the job.

- Working knowledge of accounting as it applies to insurance distribution β€” premium trust and fiduciary accounting, commission, and the ability to read a general ledger, a reconciliation, and a carrier statement without needing them translated. An accounting degree, CPA, or time spent inside a finance function is a strong plus.

- Hands-on surplus lines premium tax experience β€” multi-state filings, and the mechanics of calculating and remitting tax and fees, rather than only supervisin
