Associate Director, AP Graphics

College Board – Advanced Placement

Location: This is a remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office). All CB employees are required to occasionally travel to meet in person for business purposes.

Role Type : This is a full-time term position that will last for 2 years from the start date.

About the Team

The College Board ’s Advanced Placement and Instruction division (300+ staff) develops and administers coursework taken by more than 3 million students worldwide each school year, and the related subject-matter exams utilized by more than 4,000 colleges and universities for course placement and awarding of college credit. These include credit and placement examination programs like CLEP and ACCUplacer; Advanced Placement (AP) and Pre-AP courses in 40+ disciplines; and associated teacher professional learning programs.   

The AP Graphics team produces exam and instructional graphics across the full AP course portfolio, and owns the standards, tools, and processes that underpin graphic production for all new and existing AP courses and exams. This team plays a central role in ensuring visual accuracy, accessibility, and production efficiency across every format— digital, hybrid, and paper—from initial course development through final exam delivery.

About the Opportunity

The Associate Director, AP Graphics plays a key role in the AP Assessment Production Graphics workstream, providing flexible, cross-course production support as the team scales. In this role, you will create technical vector graphics, maps, and illustrations across a range of AP courses, adapting quickly to unfamiliar content and shifting priorities as coverage needs require. You will maintain brand and accessibility consistency across your work, and communicate directly with content experts and production colleagues to resolve requests and design issues efficiently. As course assignments shift, you will ramp into new subject matter and production standards on tight timelines, working within a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment—directly supporting AP's mission to give every student the opportunity to study and learn at the college level.

In this role, you will:

Execute Cross-Course Graphics Production (70%)

Handle day-to-day graphic requests across multiple assigned AP courses based on shifting production priorities set by the Senior Director

Produce graphics per existing AP Graphics standards established by Senior Director and Course Leads, adapting quickly across formats and course domains

Move fluidly between courses as volume, deadlines, or coverage needs require

Support Shared Standards and Documentation (15%)

Contribute to and assist in maintaining asset libraries, templates, and documentation across multiple courses, under the direction of the Senior Director in collaboration with Course Leads

Facilitate Problem-Solving and Continuous Improvement (15%)

Engage in troubleshooting for technical issues and workflow questions within assigned scope

Contribute to team-wide process improvements as capacity allows

About You

3+ years of professional technical art, graphic design, and/or illustration experience

Portfolio demonstrating excellent vector graphic and illustration skills

Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop (Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and other Creative Cloud apps is a plus.)

Familiarity with graphics industry conventions for both digital display and print (e.g., resolution, file formats, color modes, typography)

Understanding of basic mathematical concepts like scale, angles, ratios, and percentages

- Competent photo editing skills
