Position: Solar Project Manager

Job Type: Temporary / Contract

Initial Duration: 3 Months

Potential for Full-Time: Yes, based on performance and company needs

Rate: $7–$9 USD per hour

Schedule: U.S. Business Hours

Location: Remote / Work From Home

We are a growing solar installation company looking for a reliable, organized, and proactive Solar Project Manager to help manage our solar projects from permit application through interconnection and PTO.

This is initially a 3-month temporary position, with the possibility of becoming a full-time, long-term position for the right person based on performance, reliability, and ability to manage projects independently.

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of projects, stay on top of deadlines, follow up with cities and utilities, and make sure projects keep moving forward.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Permitting

Prepare and submit solar permit applications to the appropriate city/county/AHJ.

Track permit status and follow up with permitting departments.

Monitor plan check comments and correction notices.

Coordinate revisions and resubmissions.

Make sure permits are approved and ready for installation.

2. Project Tracking & Progress

Monitor projects from sales/contract handoff through completion.

Keep track of where every project stands and what needs to happen next.

Follow up with customers, contractors, vendors, cities, and utilities.

Identify stalled projects and take action to move them forward.

Maintain accurate project records, spreadsheets, and/or project management software.

Track important deadlines, documents, inspections, and approvals.

Make sure no project or task falls through the cracks.

3. Meter & Inspection Scheduling

Schedule required building/electrical/solar inspections.

Coordinate meter spot/site visits when required.

Coordinate inspection schedules with homeowners and field crews.

Track inspection results and arrange re-inspections when necessary.

Follow up until inspections are successfully completed.

Coordinate with utilities regarding meter installation or replacement.

4. Utility Interconnection

Prepare and submit utility interconnection applications.

Track applications from submission through approval.

Communicate with utilities regarding application requirements, corrections, and missing documents.

Follow up regularly on pending applications.

Coordinate utility meter work when applicable.

Track projects through Permission to Operate (PTO).

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous solar project management experience is strongly preferred.

Experience with California solar permitting and utility interconnection is highly preferred.

Familiarity with cities/counties, AHJs, inspections, and utility processes.

Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.

Strong written and spoken English.

Comfortable communicating professionally through email and phone.

Able to manage multiple projects at the same time.

Extremely detail-oriented.

Proactive and able to work independently.

Comfortable using spreadsheets, email, online permitting portals, and project management software.

Must have a reliable internet connection and be available during U.S. business hours.

THE TYPE OF PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We need someone who doesn't simply wait for instructions.

The ideal candidate should be able to look at a project and ask:

“Where is this project right now? What is holding it up? What needs to happen next? Who do I need to contact? And when should I follow up again?”

You will be responsible for keeping projects moving and making sure deadlines, applications, inspections, and utility requirements are followed up on.

You should be comfortable making phone calls, sending follow-up emails, checking application portals, coordinating schedules, and communicating with different parties to get projects completed.

COMPENSATION & EMPLOYMENT

$7–$9 USD per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

This is initially a 3-month temporary position. However, there is an opportunity for the position to become full-time and long-term if you perform well, demonstrate reliability, and are a good fit for our company.
