Job Overview

Option One Solar is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Solar Construction Estimator to join our team.

The successful candidate will have a background in construction and estimating, with an understanding of electrical systems and the ability to interpret construction blueprints and specifications.

This role involves reviewing project plans, identifying the scope of work, performing electrical calculations, preparing accurate estimates, and developing clear and detailed bid proposals.

We are looking for someone who is analytical, organized, comfortable communicating with potential clients, and willing to learn new solar estimating and design software.

Key Responsibilities

- Review and interpret construction blueprints, electrical drawings, and project specifications to determine project requirements and scope of work.

- Perform electrical calculations based on amperage to determine appropriate wire sizing and panelboard sizing.

- Demonstrate an understanding of electrical installations, including underground and aboveground systems.

- Prepare construction estimates and detailed project bids.

- Develop clear proposal verbiage outlining the scope of work, inclusions, exclusions, and other relevant bid details.

- Utilize Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel for estimating, calculations, and documentation.

- Identify missing information, discrepancies, and unclear specifications in project documents.

- Communicate with potential clients and project stakeholders to clarify project requirements.

- Prepare and submit detailed Requests for Information (RFIs) when project information requires clarification.

- Learn and utilize estimating and design software, including HelioScope and Energy Toolbase.

- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail throughout the estimating and bid preparation process.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Background in construction and construction estimating.

- Understanding of electrical systems, including underground and aboveground installations.

- Ability to perform electrical calculations involving amperage, wire sizing, and panelboard sizing.

- Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and technical specifications.

- Ability to identify and clearly define project scope of work.

- Strong proficiency in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.

- Ability to write clear, detailed, and professional bid proposals.

- Understanding of proposal inclusions, exclusions, and scope clarification.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Comfortable reaching out to potential clients to ask questions and clarify project requirements.

- Ability to prepare detailed RFIs.

- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and analytical.

- Willingness to learn new software and estimating tools.

Additional Advantage:

- Previous experience in solar construction or electrical work.

- Familiarity with solar estimating, design, or project management software.
