Senior Software Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure
Pittsburgh, PA / United States or Remote in USA
About OneArc
We believe in saving lives through simulation. We build high-fidelity, repeatable, and accessible virtual training environments that prepare NATO-allied militaries and defense organizations for real-world scenarios. We make mission-critical military simulations, not commercial video games, and our work directly impacts global readiness.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the distributed services that drive our real-time simulation systems. You will design, implement, and maintain low-latency, high-throughput backend infrastructure to ensure our APIs and data pipelines meet extreme performance demands. You will lead technical design efforts, ensure scalable cloud resource usage, and shape the architecture that powers our core training platforms.
What You'll Do
- Develop, maintain, and architect robust software features and distributed modules.
- Break down complex project requirements into clear, actionable implementation plans for your pod.
- Actively mentor less experienced engineers in system design, performance optimization, and modern cloud-native development.
- Identify and propose game-changing improvements, from technical debt removal to optimizing development processes.
- Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary stakeholders (artists, game devs, veterans) to deliver production-grade systems.
- Elevate team standards by performing rigorous code reviews, driving feature estimations, and participating in the engineering hiring process.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional backend software development experience, heavily indexing on Golang and C++.
- Deep understanding and strong practical experience with RESTful API design principles.
- Proven track record deploying and managing services in Kubernetes across both private (on-prem) and public cloud environments.
- Direct experience building real-time simulation or other highly performance-critical, low-latency systems.
- Clear, candid communication skills with the ability to align cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with NATS or other asynchronous messaging frameworks.
- Background in GIS data processing or other mathematically intensive fields.
- Proven leadership experience and a strong multi-language scripting toolkit.
What We Offer: United States Benefits Package
- Employee Referral Bonus: $3,000 for referrals
- Significant Milestone Gifts: Up to $100 budget for major personal events (birth/adoption, weddings, milestone birthdays).
- Anniversary & Service Awards: Progressive recognition milestone awards ($250 at 3 years, up to $2,000 at 30 years).
- Vacation & Leave: 15–20 days paid vacation (up to 40 hours carryover); paid holiday calendar; paid jury duty.
- Retirement: 401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching.
- Health & Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; company-paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability.
