Senior Counsel, AI & Product
Ready to be a Titan?
At ServiceTitan , we're building the operating system for the trades. As we continue to scale, we're looking for a Senior Counsel, AI & Product to join our Global Legal team and be the day-to-day legal partner for Product, Engineering, Data Science, and all cross-functional AI initiatives as we build and scale AI-enabled features at the company and across the platform.
This is a hands-on role for an attorney who thinks like a product partner, not just a reviewer. The specific features and legal questions you'll own will shift as our AI roadmap evolves. Today that might mean a new automation capability or an AI vendor relationship; tomorrow it could be a different product or regulatory question entirely. What stays constant is the kind of thinking: translating complex, fast-moving legal and regulatory questions into clear, practical guidance that Product and Engineering can build against with confidence. This role reports to our Deputy General Counsel, Product, Privacy, IP & AI Governance. While our headquarters are in Glendale, CA, this is a remote position.
What You'll Do
- Provide practical, full product life-cycle legal counseling from ideation through launch and ongoing operations, partnering with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Security, and Marketing on new features and AI-enabled capabilities.
- Own day-to-day administration of ServiceTitan 's AI governance program, translating our governance framework and risk-tiered review model into scaled, repeatable processes for AI Inventory intake, AI Impact Assessment review, and legal sign-off, and continue to mature the AI Design Guidelines as the regulatory and product landscape evolves.
- Serve as the primary legal point of contact for internal AI-related initiatives, including legal review of AI tools and use cases.
- Conduct legal risk assessments for AI-enabled and other product capabilities, including automated decision-making, algorithmic scoring or prioritization, and employee- or customer-facing automation, and triage broader product legal risk across areas such as telecom and call-recording laws, consumer protection, fintech, employment, and intellectual property/confidential information, exercising judgment on urgency and escalation to the right subject-matter experts (including Privacy Counsel on privacy-specific matters), business stakeholders, or outside counsel.
- Evaluate the legal and regulatory risk of AI products and tools being considered for internal procurement or for integration into the platform for downstream customer distribution, and define the contractual safeguards required.
- Monitor emerging AI legislation (state automated decision-making rules, the Colorado AI Act, and similar frameworks) and translate developments into practical internal guidance.
- Partner with Marketing and Commercial Legal to ensure AI-related product claims (e.g., "automated," "AI-powered") are accurate and substantiated.
- Build and maintain playbooks, templates, and training that reduce turnaround time on routine, recurring legal questions, freeing up capacity for higher-judgment work.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Security to align on AI governance priorities and drive consistent decision-making across the business.
- Collaborate with other members of the Legal team, including Privacy, Commercial, Litigation, and IP to ensure consistent, well-coordinated judgment across product, AI, and adjacent legal domains.
What You'll Bring
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- 8–10 years of combined law firm and in-house experience counseling technology companies on product development, data, and emerging-technology legal issues.
- Meaningful hands-on experience advising on generative AI governance, deployment, or compliance. We weigh the depth of recent, applied experience more heavily than total tenure in this specific niche.
- Broader experience with automated decision-making, algorithmic systems, or data-driven products that predates the generative AI wave (e.g., ad tech, biometric technology, scoring or eligibility systems, earlier-generation ML features) is a strong plus, and is often a more reliable signal of judgment than generative-AI tenure alone.
- Working knowledge of U.S. consumer protection and communications law (TCPA), biometric privacy statutes (e.g., BIPA), and state automated decision-making/AI laws (e.g., California's CCPA ADMT rules, the Colorado AI Act).
- Experience building or operating an AI governance program (e.g., AI inventories, impact assessments, and cross-functional review workflows) preferred.
- Experience advising non-product business functions on the legal and compliance considerations of adopting AI-powered tools, including vendor risk, data handling practices, and deployment safeguards.
- Technology industry experience in a B2B SaaS company; technology industry experience in a B2B SaaS company, particularly where compliance decisions affect real-world business and consumer outcomes, is a plus.
- A pragmatic, business-oriented approach to problem solving, with strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical and legal complexity into clear, actionable guidance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, pivoting in response to evolving organizational needs.
