Position Overview
The Medical Director, Autoimmune Disease, will be a key medical leader dedicated to helping advance Adaptive’s emerging autoimmune diagnostics franchise. Working within Adaptive's medical and clinical development infrastructure, this individual will serve as the medical lead for current and future autoimmune pipeline products, with accountability for clinical development planning, evidence generation, early clinical experience, and medical input into product and commercialization strategy.
The Medical Director will bring the physician and patient perspective to cross-functional strategy, partner across R&D and commercial functions, and develop relationships with KOLs, investigators, and scientific collaborators. The role may have the opportunity to build a team as the autoimmune program and business case matures.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Lead the medical aspects of the autoimmune program and create and execute the clinical development and evidence plan in alignment with cross-functional product and franchise strategy
- Provide disease-area, physician, and patient input to R&D, Product, Commercial, and Market Access teams, informing intended use, product requirements, clinical workflow, evidence needs, and commercialization planning
- Design and oversee clinical validation, clinical utility, real-world evidence, and early clinical experience programs, partnering closely with Development, Biostatistics, Regulatory, Quality, Compliance and Operations
- Develop and review protocols, investigator materials, clinical study reports, regulatory documents, publications, and presentations; interpret results and recommend next steps to program teams
- Develop KOL and investigator relationships, lead advisory activities, and cultivate scientific collaborations and investigator-initiated research with clear objectives and deliverables
- Partner with Biopharma Business Development to integrate Adaptive assays into drug-development programs, including patient selection, disease characterization, response monitoring, and trial endpoints
- Monitor the evolving autoimmune disease landscape across indications and treatment modalities to evaluate unmet needs and inform product strategy
- Build internal autoimmune expertise and represent Adaptive at scientific meetings and with external stakeholders
- As program needs and data support growth, partner with senior Medical and Commercial leadership to define the medical resourcing plan and recruit, manage, and develop the team; manage assigned budgets, vendors, timelines, and compliance requirements
- Lead clinical strategy across the product lifecycle, from early discovery through commercialization, partnering with cross-functional senior leaders to define product strategy and ensure effective governance, decision-making, and execution.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)
Required
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution; medical license in good standing (preferred) or documented prior licensure in good standing and 8+ years of experience of which:
- At least 4 years of post-training clinical, translational, or clinical-research experience in autoimmune or immune-mediated disease
- At least 4 years of industry experience in clinical development, medical affairs, diagnostics, biotechnology, or biopharma, including work with molecular diagnostics, biomarkers, or precision-medicine products
