Content Strategist (Contract)

Lone Rock Point builds and manages digital experiences for public sector and mission-driven organizations, including migrating NASA's website and supporting its streaming service, work that has to serve millions of citizens in plain language and hold up under public scrutiny. We're looking for a Senior Content Strategist who can walk into a legacy site with years of accumulated content sprawl and leave it with a cohesive structure, voice, and governance model that the client's own team can run without us.

You'll work directly with government clients and our design and development team to take content from audit through migration and beyond. This role suits someone who's as comfortable running a content workshop with high-level stakeholders as they are building information architecture or writing a content model for a custom WordPress block, who can defend a plain-language recommendation to a program office that's used to bureaucratic copy, and who treats documentation and training handoff as part of finishing the job, not an afterthought.

What You'll Do
- Lead content strategy engagements from discovery through launch, including content audits, gap analysis, and stakeholder interviews across multiple agency divisions
- Design information architecture and taxonomy for large WordPress installations
- Build content models for custom WordPress blocks and templates in partnership with designers and developers
- Write and enforce editorial guidelines that meet the Plain Writing Act, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 AA content requirements
- Plan and execute content migrations, including inventorying legacy content and making the call on what gets rewritten, consolidated, or retired
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions that hand off editorial ownership to client content teams
- Use analytics and user research to justify structural and editorial recommendations, not just style preferences
- Partner with content editors across the client's organization to consolidate and organize duplicate or overlapping content and review against established governance standards
- Execute hands-on content creation and editing, including the production of original plain-language copy and the overhaul of legacy pages
- Mentor other content strategists and content-adjacent team members
