BillionToOne is looking to hire an Associate General Counsel , its fifth attorney, for its growing Legal & Compliance team to advise on a variety of issues. This role will have a significant impact on developing and implementing legal and compliance policies, practices, and systems. You will partner and collaborate with members of our Finance, Sales, Market Access, Reimbursement, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, and HR teams. This role reports to our General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer & Secretary and can be located onsite, hybrid, or fully remote (with occasional travel).
Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and address legal and compliance risks across Product, Marketing, Commercial Operations, Market Access/Reimbursement, Research & Development, People Ops and Finance โ anticipating issues rather than waiting to be asked
- Independently identify gaps in existing policies and processes and drive build-out of compliance infrastructure
- Develop processes and infrastructure to ensure compliance with applicable external requirements, soliciting feedback from internal stakeholders, preparing and drafting policies/SOPs and overseeing implementation and training in a variety of areas
- Advise on company contracts, including drafting, negotiating, reviewing, interpreting, and managing strategic, high-value contracts
- Take ownership of legal questions in unfamiliar subject areas โ research, collect business input, and drive to resolution with appropriate escalation
- Partner with legal team members to develop and build legal and compliance infrastructure and program for lab services/life science organization
Requirements:
- Genuine interest and ability to learning new areas of law and business, with a proven track record of taking on projects in unfamiliar areas and driving them to completion
- Ability to be highly resourceful, adaptable, creative and nimble in a high-growth, fast-paced environment
- Track record of taking on unfamiliar legal problems with minimal oversight and driving them to a positive result for the business
- Comfortable operating with significant autonomy and ambiguity in a lean legal team, making judgment calls without a playbook
- JD and licensed to practice law in one or more US jurisdictions
- 5+ years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department, ideally with exposure to life science or health care organizations
- Experience advising commercial leaders and colleagues on business strategies, product promotion, sales programs and transactions and other commercial initiatives.
- Experience developing processes to comply with legal/regulatory requirements, drafting and implementing policies and procedures, and delivering employee training
- Exposure to some combination of the following subject areas: commercial compliance, securities/corporate governance, contract drafting and negotiation, intellectual property, and labor and employment matters
