Remote work in Spain: what the market actually looks like
Last updated: October 2026. All figures below were measured on 29 October 2026 from RemoShift's own index of live listings.
Spain is one of the largest remote-work markets in Europe by inventory, and the shape of it is unusual. It is not driven by Spanish companies hiring Spanish staff so much as by international employers โ consultancies, staffing platforms and product companies โ that will hire someone living in Spain. As of 29 October 2026 we track 2,399 active remote roles open to candidates based in Spain, posted by 703 distinct companies, with 737 of those roles posted in the previous 14 days. Browse them live at remote jobs in Spain.
What the Spain market actually looks like
Three characteristics separate Spain from the rest of our country index:
- It is a hiring market, not a startup market. The largest employers in the list are IT services and consultancy firms โ Inetum, IRIUM, knowmad mood, Talan, Devoteam โ plus staffing platforms such as Jobgether and mercor. These are companies that place people onto client projects, which is why so many roles are contract-shaped rather than permanent in-house positions.
- Volume is stable and broad. 703 companies for 2,399 roles is roughly 3.4 roles per employer: a long tail of one- and two-role companies rather than a handful of giants absorbing the whole list.
- Most of it is genuinely Spain-restricted. 1,906 of the 2,399 roles list Spain as their only eligible location. Only 494 are open to candidates in more than one country. That is the opposite of what people expect from "remote work in Europe" โ these are jobs you can do from Spain, not jobs you can do from anywhere.
Which roles are actually hiring
Of the 1,722 Spain listings that carry a category label, engineering is the dominant function by a wide margin, with sales a clear second:
- Software development โ 273 roles. Within the tag data, backend engineering (62) and DevOps (44) are the deepest specialisms, with cloud engineering close behind.
- Sales and business development โ 150 roles, plus 47 tagged business development and 30 tagged account executive. This is the second-largest function and the one most often open to people without an engineering background.
- Marketing โ 75 roles.
- Data science โ 62 roles.
- Design โ 60 roles.
- Product โ 55 roles.
- Customer service โ 51 roles, including 36 explicitly tagged as customer service work.
Operations (36), finance (32) and human resources (24) round out the list. The practical read: if you are an engineer, Spain's remote market is deep enough to be selective in. If you are in sales, it is viable. Everything else is thin enough that you should expect to compete on language and timezone as much as on skill. For the engineering side specifically, see our remote developer jobs guide.
What Spain remote jobs pay
Only 508 of the 2,399 listings disclose pay at all โ about 21%. Of those, 314 quote euros, 151 quote US dollars (typically international employers paying a global band), and the rest use other currencies or unparseable formats.
Among the EUR postings, 211 are quoted annually, 58 hourly and 24 monthly. Annualising all 289 well-formed EUR ranges puts the middle half of the market between roughly โฌ27,000 and โฌ60,000, with a median near โฌ39,000. That is a local-market band, not a US one โ and it is the single most useful thing to know before you negotiate.
Two patterns are worth flagging. First, hourly-quoted EUR roles are common enough (58 of them) to be a distinct category โ these are typically part-time, project or freelance arrangements, and the headline hourly rate looks far better than the annualised total. Second, the USD-quoted roles are where the pay ceiling sits: an international employer paying a US or global band into a Spanish cost base is the strongest financial position in this market. For how to handle that conversation, our remote salary negotiation guide covers the mechanics.
Who is hiring
The ten largest employers in the current Spain index:
- Jobgether โ 151 roles (a staffing platform aggregating client demand)
- Tusclasesparticulares โ 65 roles (education marketplace)
- Inetum โ 48 roles (IT services)
- IRIUM โ 41 roles (IT services)
- mercor โ 38 roles (talent marketplace)
- knowmad mood โ 27 roles (IT consultancy)
- Talan โ 24 roles (consultancy)
- Devoteam โ 24 roles (cloud and data consultancy)
- Docplanner โ 19 roles (healthtech product company)
- Plain Concepts โ 19 roles (software consultancy)
Six of those ten are consultancies or staffing intermediaries. That matters for how you apply: with a consultancy, you are being hired onto a client engagement, so the interview process often includes a client-side step and the "employer" on your contract may differ from the company whose name is on the listing. With a product company like Docplanner, you are joining the company itself.
Remote within Spain versus remote across Europe
The distinction is the most common source of wasted applications. A role described as "remote" in Spain usually means one of three things:
- Remote within Spain (1,906 roles here) โ you must be tax-resident and often contractually based in Spain, typically as an employee under Spanish social security or as an autรณnomo invoicing the employer.
- Remote across multiple European countries (part of the 494 multi-country roles) โ the employer has entities or an employer-of-record arrangement in several countries, and Spain is one of them.
- Work from anywhere โ no country restriction at all. In our global index only about 2% of remote roles are genuinely location-free, and almost none of the Spain-tagged listings are, so treat "anywhere" as the exception rather than the default.
Before you invest time in an application, check which of the three the posting actually is. The eligible-location field on the original listing is the authoritative source โ our job cards show it, but the employer's own page is what governs.
What to check before you apply
- Contract type and who employs you. Whether you are hired as an employee with a Spanish contract, through an employer-of-record, or as an invoicing contractor changes your effective pay by a meaningful margin. The tax and social-security consequences are covered in our remote work tax basics guide.
- Language. Spain-tagged listings are not all Spanish-language. Engineering roles at international consultancies frequently run in English; sales and customer-facing roles at Spanish-market companies usually require fluent Spanish, and Catalan or Basque requirements appear in a minority of regional roles.
- Timezone. Most Spain-based roles operate on CET/CEST. Roles for US employers will expect evening availability, and roles for APAC employers are rare here for that reason.
- Right to work. Being eligible for a role is not the same as being legally able to take it. If you are not an EU citizen, confirm the employer sponsors or uses an employer-of-record โ most listings in this index do not state it explicitly.
Where to go next
Start with the live list: remote jobs in Spain โ 2,399 roles, refreshed hourly, filtered to postings that carry a full job description. If you are flexible on location within the Iberian peninsula, remote jobs in Portugal adds a further market with heavy overlap in employers. If you are weighing Spain against another European base, compare with remote jobs in Germany โ the pay bands are materially higher, and the Germany guide explains why.
