Workforce Operations Manager
We're looking for a Workforce Operations Manager to own the people and output management side of a data labeling operation at a fast-moving AI company. You will manage teams of 5 to 10 workers per project, keep their work output on track, and handle the handoff of finished labeled outputs to the engineering team. This is a non-technical, pure operations role โ you will not be building anything.
The ideal background for this role is not a traditional project management resume. We are looking for someone with community management or people management experience โ someone who has run a Slack community, managed a distributed workforce, or kept a group of remote knowledge workers aligned and producing without micromanaging. If you are a strong people operator who knows how to manage output quality across a distributed team and can keep things moving without being the most technical person in the room, this role is a strong fit.
Why You'll Want to Join
- You will be paid in USD (bi-monthly: every 15th and 30th)
-
Paid Time Off in accordance with company policy
- Observance of Holidays per company guidelines
-
100% remote setup so you can work wherever you're most productive
- This role requires availability during US business hours
- Work inside a fast-moving AI company serving biopharma, legal, energy, and healthcare clients
- High-ownership operations role with direct impact on delivery quality and team performance
What You'll Work On
Team Management and Output Oversight
- Manage teams of 5 to 10 workers per project, keeping their work output on track and on schedule
- Monitor output quality and flag issues early before they affect delivery
- Provide clear direction, feedback, and accountability to team members throughout each project
- Maintain team engagement and performance across a distributed, async workforce
Operations and Handoff Coordination
- Own the operations side of the data labeling workflow from team assignment through to finished output
- Coordinate the handoff of completed labeled outputs to the engineering team accurately and on time
- Maintain organized records of project status, team assignments, and output tracking
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks in the workflow before they create delays
Community and Workforce Management
- Manage team communications across async channels including Slack and email
- Build a reliable, well-managed workforce that produces consistent quality output
- Onboard new team members efficiently and ensure they understand expectations from day one
- Surface recurring issues, feedback, and improvement opportunities to leadership
What You Bring
- Experience managing a distributed workforce, community, or knowledge-worker team โ this is the most important qualification
- Background in community management, workforce operations, or people management in an async remote environment
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to give clear direction and feedback across a distributed team
- Highly organized with the ability to track multiple team members and project workstreams simultaneously without losing visibility
- Comfortable managing output quality without needing to understand the technical details of what is being produced
- Proactive communicator who surfaces issues early and keeps stakeholders informed without being asked
- Self-directed and reliable in a fully remote, async environment
Nice to Have
- Experience managing Slack communities or distributed knowledge-worker groups
- Background in data labeling, AI training data, or knowledge-work operations
- Prior experience in a forward-deployed or embedded operations role
- Familiarity with tools such as Notion, Airtable, or similar platforms for tracking team workflows
- Experience working inside an early-stage AI or technology company
