US-Based Staff Veterinarian

Vetster expands access to veterinary care by connecting pet owners with licensed veterinarians through a digital platform that supports professional veterinary advice, diagnoses, treatment, and prescriptions.

Vetster is seeking an experienced Staff Veterinarian to provide high-quality virtual veterinary care through the Vetster platform. This is a primarily clinical, fully remote 1099 contractor role. The Staff Veterinarian will maintain a consistent virtual appointment caseload, including Vetster marketplace appointments and consultations involving animals cared for through retail and strategic partnerships. In addition to scheduled appointments, the role includes continuity-of-care responsibilities, collaboration with Vetster โ€™s RVT team, and clinical input across other internal teams.
What Youโ€™ll Do

Provide Virtual Veterinary Care to Clients

- Provide virtual assessments, treatment recommendations, and prescriptions within applicable regulatory requirements through the Vetster platform.

- Identify cases requiring emergency or specialty care and recommend escalation.

Continuity of Care

- Serve as an Assigned Continuing Veterinarian when the originating Marketplace Veterinarian is unavailable, in accordance with applicable VCPR requirements.

- Review medical records and support continuity-of-care needs, including:
- Prescription renewals and fulfillment inquiries

- Follow-up questions related to established treatment plans

- Collaborate with the RVT team on escalated cases and cases requiring further review.

Clinical Expertise

- Provide practical clinical feedback to Product, Engineering, Operations, and other Vetster teams regarding workflows that affect veterinary care.

- Maintain knowledge of applicable state veterinary telemedicine laws, proposed legislative changes, VCPR requirements, and relevant regulatory changes.

Education & External Engagement

As mutually agreed upon and based on availability, the Staff Veterinarian may also:

- Participate in media, PR, and industry events.

- Contribute to educational content for pet owners and veterinarians.

Schedule & Caseload

This role requires an expected commitment of approximately 40 hours per week, inclusive of scheduled appointments, medical records, administrative time, continuity-of-care activities, internal meetings, and clinical follow-up.

- Appointments with clients are scheduled in 20-minute increments.

- The anticipated average caseload is approximately 12โ€“16 appointments per day.

- Appointments are generally scheduled consecutively (varies by demand), with protected time given for meal breaks, medical records, and administrative responsibilities.

- Veterinarians have flexibility in establishing their schedule while also maintaining consistent Monday through Friday weekday availability.

- No routine nights, holidays, or on-call responsibilities are expected.

What You Bring

- 3+ years companion animal clinical experience with a DVM or VMD degree.

- Active veterinary licensure in good standing within the United States (preference of licensure in Florida, California, Arizona, and/or Ohio).

- Willingness and ability to obtain additional state licenses.

- Strong clinical judgment and ability to determine when virtual care is appropriate.

- Excellent written & verbal communication skills

- Strong medical record and documentation ability

- Ability to collaborate with veterinarians, RVTs, and cross-functional teams.

Previous experience in veterinary telemedicine or multi-state practice is considered an asset.
Licensure & Professional Expenses

Vetster will cover veterinary licenses and license renewals required for the role.
The Contractor is responsible for:
