Overview:
The Staff Cloud Data Platform Engineer owns and evolves Inovalon ’s Snowflake data platform, with a focus on reliability, performance, automation, security, and cost optimization. This is a platform engineering role, not a traditional DBA position; the primary focus is Snowflake platform ownership, with cloud experience a valuable complement. The ideal candidate brings deep Snowflake expertise and a strong engineering mindset with a bias toward automation and operational excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Own and optimize the Snowflake platform, including compute, performance, scalability, and workload management; serve as the primary subject matter expert for Snowflake architecture and platform health;
- Drive Snowflake cost optimization, utilization tracking, capacity planning, and FinOps practices across the organization;
- Build automation for platform provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines;
- Manage Snowflake security, RBAC, networking, and governance to ensure data integrity, access control, and compliance;
- Enable data, AI, and ML teams with scalable, reliable, and performant data platform capabilities
- Establish and maintain platform monitoring, observability, and production support practices;
- Partner with engineering teams to address complex performance, scalability, and platform challenges;
- Adhere to all confidentiality, HIPAA, regulatory, and other such policies, procedures, and requirements as outlined within Employer’s Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the scope of work;
- Maintain compliance with Inovalon ’s policies, procedures and mission statement, and fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success.
Job Requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake platform engineering and administration; deep understanding of Snowflake architecture, compute, storage, performance tuning, and workload management required;
- Experience with Snowflake security, RBAC, networking, and governance;
- Experience with Snowflake cost optimization, FinOps practices, workload utilization, and capacity management;
- Strong SQL, troubleshooting, automation and scripting, and production engineering skills;
- Experience with Terraform or comparable Infrastructure as Code tooling and CI/CD pipeline management;
- Strong engineering mindset with a focus on automation, reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement;
- AWS or other cloud platform experience is a plus;
- Experience supporting AI and ML data workloads and modern Snowflake AI and ML capabilities is a plus;
- Snowflake certification is a plus.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field required.
