Staff Engineer, Checkout Platform (m/f/d)
About your tasks:

Build and evolve the Core Commerce Services platform: Take a hands-on role in creating scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities, from early technical discovery and design through implementation and production.

Shape the architecture: Define APIs, domain boundaries and integration patterns while making pragmatic decisions around scalability, reliability, security, observability and long-term maintainability.

Drive technical alignment: Work across Checkout, Payment and other dependent teams to align technical decisions and integration contracts while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.

Mentor and grow engineers: Develop others through pairing, design discussions, code reviews and technical feedback while helping raise engineering standards across the team.

Enable future commerce: Partner with Product to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions and establish the foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce and emerging channels.
About you:

You bring strong Java and backend engineering expertise and have experience designing and building backend services, platforms and large-scale distributed systems. You remain hands-on and are comfortable contributing directly to production code.

You have operated at Staff/Principal level or demonstrated equivalent senior technical leadership , with strong system design and architecture capabilities and the ability to take significant technical ownership with a high level of autonomy.

You are comfortable working in a greenfield / 0-to-1 environment , where architecture, APIs and domain boundaries still need to be shaped. You know how to explore options, evaluate trade-offs and turn ambiguity into pragmatic technical decisions.

You have a strong track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence , helping raise the technical level of a team and creating alignment across engineering domains.

Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce or marketplaces would be a valuable plus rather than a requirement.
