General Function

The Staff Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, executing month-end close procedures, and ensuring overall compliance with GAAP. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, and supporting compliance with federal regulations, including Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements.

Within a cybersecurity and software engineering environment, the Staff Accountant ensures proper accounting for labor-intensive contracts, indirect cost allocations, project cost structures, and compliance with government cost principles. This role supports a DCAA-ready accounting environment and collaborates closely with forecast, planning and analysis (FP&A), contracts, and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting for federal programs.

Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)

- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules.

- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.

- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.

- Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and management reports.

- Ensure compliance with GAAP, OSCG policies, government contracting requirements and applicable regulatory standards.

- Support DCAA audits and financial statement audits by preparing schedules and documentation.

- Maintain fixed assets ledger, depreciation schedules, and prepaid expenses.

- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and project accounting functions as needed.

- Record and reconcile intercompany labor, shared service and overhead allocations.

- Prepare monthly intercompany reconciliations.

- Assist with consolidation and elimination of entries between affiliated entities.

- Ensure timely settlement of intercompany balances.

- Reconcile payroll, benefits, taxes, and labor distributions.

- Support labor transfers and project labor adjustments.

- Review timesheet compliance and process labor.

- Maintain supporting documentation for financial transactions.

- Perform other duties as appropriate and as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
