Role overview:
Shape a secure, integrated and deliverable technology solution for ESCS. The Solution Architect works across customer needs, business outcomes, enterprise constraints and delivery capabilities to create a coherent solution architecture, roadmaps and evidence for investment and implementation.
The role you will play:
- Translate complex mission and business needs into a clear end-to-end solution architecture.
- Connect reusable Leidos capabilities, COTS products, cloud services, integration and data approaches into an achievable solution.
- Provide architecture leadership from early shaping and estimation through delivery assurance and transition.
Primary responsibilities:
- Lead discovery and architecture definition across business, application, data, integration, technology and security viewpoints.
- Develop solution options, trade studies, architecture decisions, roadmaps and transition states.
- Define non-functional requirements and assure security, resilience, performance, scalability, interoperability and supportability.
- Create high-level designs and guide decomposition into engineering work packages and low-level designs.
- Support estimates and investment cases with architectural assumptions, risks, dependencies and resource needs.
- Assess reuse opportunities, legacy constraints, supplier propositions and build-versus-buy choices.
- Engage customer, programme, security, commercial, supplier and engineering stakeholders to resolve design decisions.
- Maintain traceability between customer outcomes, requirements, architecture, delivery and acceptance.
- Provide technical assurance during implementation and support controlled transition into service.
Required skills and capabilities :
- End-to-end solution architecture
- Enterprise architecture methods and viewpoint modelling
- Secure cloud architecture on Azure and/or AWS
- Application, integration, API and event-driven architecture
- Data architecture, analytics and information governance awareness
- Identity, access, Zero Trust and security-by-design principles
- Non-functional requirements and architectural assurance
- COTS, SaaS and legacy integration
- Option analysis, trade studies, roadmaps and transition planning
- Bid support, estimation and senior stakeholder communication
Required experience:
- Solution architecture leadership on complex, multi-domain technology change.
- Experience engaging customers to shape ambiguous needs into feasible solution options.
- Experience developing architecture artefacts that can be used for estimation, engineering and assurance.
- Experience balancing mission outcome, security, delivery risk, cost, schedule and maintainability.
Desired experience:
- National security, defence or wider public-sector environments.
- Cross-domain integration, secure data platforms or mission systems.
- TOGAF, BCS, AWS, Azure or equivalent architecture accreditation.
- Product, IRAD, pre-sales or competitive bid shaping.
Success in the role :
- Architecture is coherent, secure, traceable and implementable.
- Assumptions, trade-offs and residual risks are transparent to decision-makers.
- Delivery teams receive sufficient guidance without unnecessary prescription.
- Reusable capabilities and patterns are identified and applied appropriately.
- Architecture remains aligned from early shaping through acceptance and service transition.
