Software Engineer in Test (SDET) (Ingeniero de Software en Pruebas)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) (Ingeniero de Software en Pruebas) based in Brazil.
This is an engineering-focused QA automation role where you’ll build the infrastructure, frameworks, services, and tooling that make automated quality possible at scale.
You’ll develop production-grade software that enables engineering teams to create, execute, monitor, and trust automated tests.
The role combines backend and full-stack development with modern test automation, CI/CD, and developer tooling.
You’ll work closely with QA, product engineers, and technical leads to improve testability, reliability, and engineering velocity.
You’ll also help establish foundations for AI-assisted testing, enabling agents and tools to generate and execute reliable test specifications.
The environment values ownership, clean engineering practices, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
It’s an opportunity to shape a quality platform used across multiple product teams rather than focusing primarily on manual testing.
Accountabilities
-
Design, develop, and maintain shared automation frameworks and libraries for web and API testing, with a preference for Playwright and modular, maintainable architectures.
-
Build backend APIs, internal services, and full-stack tools that support test case management, execution, reporting, and result persistence.
-
Develop and maintain integrations with delivery and collaboration tools such as GitHub Actions, Slack, Linear, and related APIs or webhooks.
-
Build and improve CI/CD pipelines for smoke and regression test suites, reducing test flakiness and making failures easier to diagnose and resolve.
-
Treat test automation as a first-class software product by applying code reviews, automated testing, version control, documentation, refactoring, and strong engineering standards.
-
Enable AI-assisted QA workflows by creating reliable frameworks and technical contracts that allow agents or CLI tools to generate test specifications, execute tests, and capture evidence.
-
Partner with QA engineers to drive adoption of automation frameworks and with product engineers to improve application testability through APIs, selectors, test data, and appropriate environments.
-
Investigate flaky tests, environment problems, integration failures, and other quality issues systematically, identifying and addressing their underlying causes.
-
Contribute to the evolution of internal QA tooling and platform capabilities, moving solutions from early prototypes into reliable, scalable engineering systems.
Requirements
-
4+ years of professional software development experience in backend, full-stack, or closely related engineering roles, with demonstrated experience delivering automation or developer tooling.
-
Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and experience with Playwright or comparable end-to-end automation frameworks.
-
Practical experience designing, building, and maintaining automated web and API testing frameworks, with a solid understanding of the test pyramid and when to prioritize API, integration, or UI coverage.
-
Strong backend fundamentals, including REST APIs, relational databases, authentication concepts, service boundaries, and maintainable software architecture.
-
Experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions, Git-based development workflows, and Docker.
-
Familiarity with React, Next.js, or comparable frontend technologies for developing internal dashboards, test-management interfaces, and engineering tools.
-
Ability and willingness to work with Java/Spring Boot when backend services or integrations require it.
-
Strong debugging and analytical skills, particularly when diagnosing flaky tests, environment issues, integration failures, and unreliable automation.
-
Builder mindset with a track record of creating frameworks and tools that other engineers can successfully adopt.
-
Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with QA and product engineering teams.
-
Comfortable working with ambiguity and evolving solutions from functional prototypes into robust, maintainable platform capabilities.
-
Good written and spoken English; Spanish is a plus.
-
Prior experience as an SDET, Software Engineer in Test, Test Infrastructure Engineer, or similar role is advantageous.
-
Nice-to-have experience includes mobile automation with Appium or BrowserStack, workflow orchestration, Linear/GitHub API integrations, AI or agent-based test tooling, AWS, observability, fintech/payments, or replacing external test-management platforms with internal solutions.
Benefits
-
Remote-first working model with flexibility across home, office, and customer environments.
-
No fixed minimum number of office days for most roles, with flexibility based on team and business needs.
-
Competitive salary and stock options from day one.
-
Annual learning budget and accelerated professional development opportunities.
-
A high-talent-density environment with strong ownership and low-ego collaboration.
-
English as the working language, with Spanish and Portuguese also used across the wider team.
-
A culture built around clarity, simplicity, ownership, high standards, continuous change, and inclusivity.
-
Opportunity to work on engineering systems that directly improve software quality, developer productivity, and automation at scale.
-
Exposure to modern technologies including Playwright, TypeScript, React/Next.js, Java/Spring Boot, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and AI-assisted QA.
