Software Engineer Apprentice (WFH)

About the job:
Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and build features for our web applications- frontend and backend, using Ruby on Rails, Python, JavaScript, and React

2. Work across the stack: databases, APIs, and the plumbing that connects them

3. Take a feature from first line to shipped- you'll touch every phase of the build, not just one slice of it

4. Test for performance, security, and the edge cases that actually break things in production

5. Work directly with the rest of the team on shared infrastructure, not off in a corner

6. Push for better tools and approaches as the codebase grows, instead of settling for it's always been done this way

Other Requirements:
- 1. 2–3 years of professional experience building with Ruby on Rails, Java, Python, JavaScript/React, or Node
- 2. Comfortable with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery on the front end
- 3. A real grip on data structures and algorithms- not just the interview-prep version
- 4. Solid object-oriented design instincts
- 5. You'd rather write simple, clean code than clever code
- 6. Comfortable with relational databases day-to-day
- 7. Working knowledge of NoSQL is a plus, not a requirement
- 8. Some interest in the math and stats side of finance helps- you don't need to be an expert
- 9. Optional/Nice-to-know: Rust, Go, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Redis, DynamoDB, and CI/CD pipelines are used in production, and prior exposure is a plus but not a hiring requirement or blocker
