Our system is composed of a retreating monolith surrounded by a growing collection of microservices. Within this system, you and your engineering team will be responsible for building and maintaining client-facing components. The current technology stack consists of ReactJS, Java, PostgreSQL, Docker and AWS . If you’re hungry to learn, humble, and interested in winning as a team, we think you’ll do well here. Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

- Lead, mentor, and support a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and collaboration.

- Conduct 1:1s, provide coaching and feedback, and support engineers in their professional development.

- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and team growth strategies- including performance management tasks; annual reviews, merit, feedback conversations.

Hands-On Development

- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code—setting the standard for technical excellence within the team.

- Actively contribute to key development projects and unblock engineering challenges as needed.

- Guide architecture, code reviews, and technical decision-making to ensure high-quality delivery.

Project & Stakeholder Management

- Collaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to define and deliver solutions that meet user and business needs.

- Partner with Product to shape epics, plan sprints, and prioritize the backlog.

- Own team-level sprint planning, delivery timelines, and status reporting.

- Hold the team accountable to sprint commitments, ensuring timely delivery of epics and completion of tickets.

- Identify and manage technical dependencies and risks.

Process & Technical Excellence

- Champion engineering best practices in coding, testing, CI/CD, and monitoring.

- Drive continuous improvement in tools, workflows, and team processes.

- Help define and implement the long-term technical strategy for your team.

- Are proficient in Java while comfortable with adopting new technologies

Qualifications:

- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 1–2+ years in a leadership or team lead capacity.

- You have experience with AWS Lambda, ECS, SQS, Kinesis as well as Sendgrid, Postfix and Terraform.

- Experience designing and delivering scalable, production-ready systems and applications.

- Comfortable contributing to both frontend and/or backend codebases, depending on the team’s needs.

- Solid understanding of modern development practices, architecture patterns, and engineering tools.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially across cross-functional teams.

- Have experience delivering reliable, high-performance REST APIs.

- Have a strong interest in database & query performance tuning.

- Have experience and good understanding of scrum/agile development methodologies.

- Are experienced with code reviews, service ownership, fully automated testing, microservices, and rapid/continuous releases.

Preferred Skills:

- You have technical experience with E-mail processing and tracking in large systems.

- Experience with serverless, queuing, streaming.

- Are comfortable with being on-call for support and interacting directly with clients if needed.

- You have worked directly in the finance industry and/or at a SaaS startup.
