WHAT WE DO

Nitrogen equips financial advisors with a suite of AI-powered products that showcase the value of their advice so they can attract clients and keep them fearless. Since launching Riskalyze in 2011, we've been on a mission to create what we call Catalyst Moments — those powerful instances when an advisor leads a client from confused and fearful to confident and fearless.

Nitrogen is a connected suite of advisor products designed to showcase the value of advice in every client meeting. Combining agentic AI with Risk Alignment, Insurance Alignment, Investment Research, Income Planning, Tax Intelligence, and Legacy Planning, combining agentic AI with trusted, deterministic analytics to turn complex financial insights into persuasive visuals. The result: clearer conversations, stronger relationships, and advisors who can prove their value in every client meeting.

Trusted by tens of thousands of advisors, backed by an industry-leading Net Promoter Score of 71, and the first wealthtech company to earn ISO 42001 certification, Nitrogen is built on thirteen years of advisor data and half a trillion dollars in assets on platform. We invented the Risk Number®, built on a Nobel Prize-winning academic framework, and we champion the Fearless Investing Movement — because a world empowered to invest fearlessly starts with empowered advisors.

Nitrogen is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We are committed to being fair and intentional in our hiring decisions by reviewing every application thoroughly.

WHY DESIGN MATTERS AT NITROGEN

The last mile of financial advice isn't more data; it's clarity. It's the moment someone goes from confused to fearless. At Nitrogen, we help financial advisors showcase the value of advice in every client interaction. A lot of that comes down to great design. An advisor can have powerful analytics, but if their client can't understand what it means for their future, it doesn't really help them. Our job is to make that part clear, so clients walk away feeling confident.

Three ideas guide how we design and build at Nitrogen:
- AI does the work. Nucleus™, our AI engine, doesn't just summarize or make suggestions. It takes action for advisors. You'll help design how that works, so advisors understand what it's doing, when it needs their input, and how to stay in control.
- Connected intelligence makes the work right. Our analytics are grounded in proven methodology, not AI-generated math, and our products are designed to work better together. You'll help create the shared patterns and connected experiences that make the whole suite feel cohesive.
- Persuasive visuals make the client feel it. You'll turn complex financial data into visuals that help clients understand where they stand, see the value of advice, and feel confident about what's next.

THE ROLE

This is a chance to help shape what AI-native financial advice looks like. You'll have real influence over product decisions, room to experiment with new ways of working, and the opportunity to set a high bar for design in a complex product that advisors rely on every day. Our advisors love Nitrogen, and it shows in our Net Promoter Score of 71.

We're a small design team with a well-structured process that moves fast. Every designer owns real parts of the product from start to finish. You'll work closely with a PM and an engineering lead to figure out what problems to solve, shape solutions, and see them through until they ship.

You don't need an extensive background in wealth management to be a great fit. Most of us didn't either when we started. We have insurance experts, CFPs, and people who've built advisor tools for over a decade on the team, and they'll help get you up to speed fast. What matters more is your curiosity, your ability to make complex ideas clear, high standards for your own work, and your drive to make a real impact.

We're a fully remote team spanning Poland to California, and we welcome applicants across time zones in the US. Our core collaboration hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 2pm ET, and you'll need to be reliably available during that time to collaborate with teammates, including our engineers in Poland. Some of our most valuable work happens during these overlapping hours, when we can work through problems, make decisions, and move ideas forward together quickly in real time. You won't be in meetings the entire time, but we do expect you to be available to collaborate during that window. Outside those hours, you have the flexibility to manage your own focused design time. We trust you to work with strong accountability, autonomy, and a commitment to delivering results.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Work with your PM and engineering lead to shape new features, from a rough idea to a plan we can commit to. We work in structured, six-week development cycles, so a big part of the job is asking good questions early, exploring tradeoffs, and figuring out what's worth building.
- Design how Nucleus works when it takes action for advisors: how it communicates progress, handles uncertainty or mistakes, and knows when to bring a person back into the loop.
- Take complicated topics like investment risk, portfolio analysis, and insurance coverage, and turn them into visuals that make the numbers click, from how much a portfolio could swing in a bad year to whether a family's coverage is actually on track.

- Build and maintain reusable design components, patterns, and documentation that keep our products consistent and give engineers and AI tools a reliable foundation to build from.
- Prototype early and often. AI-powered prototyping is a core part of how we work, especially early on. You'll turn ideas into working experiences quickly, explore multiple approaches, and learn before committing to a direction. We use Figma, v0, Claude, and Devin every day.
- Work closely with engineering through implementation, reviewing what's built and refining the details so what ships meets our high quality bar.
- Share what you learn, improve how we work, and create reusable AI workflows that help all of us move faster without sacrificing quality.

- Exceptional visual product design skills. You can take a complex, data-dense product and make it feel clear, intuitive, and polished. Your portfolio shows a strong eye for layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and the details that make an experience feel finished.
- A track record of shipping. You've designed and shipped software people rely on, can explain the decisions behind them, and have results or lessons learned to show for it.
- Demonstrated AI proficiency. AI tools are already part of how you work. You use them to explore ideas, accelerate your process, and build working prototypes, not just generate static mockups. You can show us what you've built and explain how AI has changed the way you design.
- An understanding of agentic design.

You think about what makes AI experiences understandable and trustworthy, including how to communicate what the AI is doing, handle uncertainty and errors, and keep people in control.
- Experience working with design systems. You're comfortable designing within established patterns, contributing new components when needed, and thinking about how systems scale across products and the people and tools building them.
- Strong sense of ownership. You've owned big pieces of a product, and you work well with PMs and engineers without needing much oversight.
- Curiosity and a bias toward learning. You can get your head around an unfamiliar domain quickly, identify what you need to learn, and use research, experimentation, and real feedback to guide your next move.
- Conviction and humility. You're willing to ask hard questions, experiment, and advocate for what you believe is right. You're just as willing to listen, take feedback, and change your mind when you learn something new.

NICE TO HAVE
- Experience designing and shipping AI-powered products, particularly agentic workflows or other experiences where AI takes action on behalf of users.
- Experience with investing, finance, or insurance products. Or you're the friend people ask about their 401(k), or the one who's always tinkering with the newest AI tool on the weekend.
- Experience leading a design system initiative or major product redesign, including templates, modular components, or guidelines that help AI agents create more consistent work.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and React, and/or comfort using front-end AI tools to polish an experience before it ships.

The expected compensation range for this role is a $130k-$140k + annual bonus target.

Lesser experience may result in lower compensation and greater experience may result in greater compensation than the stated range.
