Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager
Experience: 5–10+ years (judgment matters more than tenure)
Reports to: Head of Accounting
This Is Not a Typical Accounting Role
Monterra is not a bookkeeping firm.
We work with multi-location operators and founders who rely on their numbers to make real decisions.
This role is for someone who:
Notices when numbers don’t make sense
Pushes back on bad data or bad assumptions
Takes responsibility for accuracy and clarity
Is comfortable being accountable for outcomes, not just tasks
If you are looking for a role where you “prepare and escalate,” this will not be a fit.
What You Will Actually Be Responsible For
You will own the quality of accounting output for a portfolio of US-based clients.
That includes:
Reviewing monthly financials for internal consistency and accuracy
Identifying misclassifications, timing issues, and missing accruals
Flagging issues before they reach senior review
Explaining variances and trends in plain English
Pushing back on incomplete or incorrect client inputs
Enforcing scope, process, and deadlines
Working independently without constant direction
You are expected to think like a controller, even if the title is Senior Accountant.
What “Senior” Means Here
In this role, “senior” does not mean:
Years of experience alone or Knowing every rule by memory
It does mean:
You sanity-check your own work
You notice when results don’t align with reality
You raise issues even when it’s uncomfortable
You can explain why something matters, not just what happened

5+ years in accounting, audit, or controllership roles
Experience reviewing others’ work (formally or informally)
Strong understanding of accrual accounting and financial statements
Exposure to multi-entity or operational businesses
Comfort working with US-based clients and teams
Excellent written English (clear, direct, professional)
CPA or similar designation very helpful but not required
You believe in delivering awesome customer service and you have experience in a customer-facing role
You are a problem solver
You have experience creating budgets, cash-flow projections and consolidations
Audit, accounting manager, or shared services leadership backgrounds are a strong plus.
What Will Disqualify You
Please do not apply if:
You primarily “follow instructions” rather than question them
You wait to be told when something looks wrong
You are uncomfortable pushing back on clients or colleagues
You rely on escalation instead of judgment
You are looking for a training or junior role
This is an accountability role.
Compensation (Read Carefully)
USD $3,500–$4,500 per month, paid bi-weekly, DOE
15-20 Days PTO, Unlimited Flex Time, 2 Days Volunteer Time
This role is designed for someone who wants:
Stability
Clear expectations
Real responsibility
Long-term growth as the firm scales
We are not optimizing for the lowest-cost hire.
We are optimizing for judgment, reliability, and reduced rework.
How You’ll Be Evaluated
In your first 90 days, success looks like:
Fewer issues reaching senior review
Clear written explanations accompanying your work
Problems identified early, not after the fact
Increased confidence from US reviewers in your output
Reduced rework and back-and-forth
Speed matters — but accuracy and judgment matter more.
Why This Role Exists
We are intentionally building a global accounting team where:
Judgment is not centralized in the US
Senior offshore talent has real responsibility
Good decisions are rewarded, not punished
This role is a stepping stone to broader ownership as the firm scales.
Why Work With Us?
Most accounting roles are designed to make you smaller.
You prepare.
You escalate.
You wait.
Someone else thinks.
That is not what we are building.
Monterra is building a next-generation accounting and advisory firm where:
Judgment matters more than hierarchy
Good decisions are valued more than perfect checklists
Senior accountants are trusted to think, not just execute
We work with multi-location operators and founders who rely on their numbers to make real decisions. That means the work is complex, sometimes messy, and always meaningful.
If you enjoy being challenged—and want your work to actually matter—this will feel very different from a traditional firm.
Performance-Driven Growth (Not Politics)
Progression here is based on:
Quality of judgment
Reduction in rework
Ability to think independently
Clear communication
Not:
Tenure
Loudness
Internal maneuvering
Strong performers get:
Expanded scope
Higher-value clients
Leadership responsibility
Compensation growth tied to real contribution
If you’re ambitious and capable, you will not be stuck waiting.
Practical, Adult Benefits
We keep perks practical, not gimmicky.
You can expect:
Paid time off (15–20 days)
Paid volunteer days
Paid flex time
Local public holidays respected
Tech stipend
Equipment support if needed
Stable, long-term role (not contract churn)
For senior performers:
Performance-based bonuses
Expanded flexibility
Leadership opportunities as the firm scales
We are not trying to build the biggest accounting firm.
We are building a serious firm—with serious standards—where senior professionals can do the best work of their careers without the bloat, politics, or ceiling that usually comes with it.
If that excites you, we want to hear from you.
If not, that’s okay.
This role is not for everyone—by design.
If you want:
Maximum pay for minimum responsibility ? this is not it
A quiet role where no one notices you ? not a fit
Endless instructions and checklists ? look elsewhere
If you want:
To be trusted
To grow quickly
To work with people who take the work seriously
To build a modern firm instead of inheriting a broken one
This is one of the best seats you can get in the market.

Final Note
We are selective by design.
If this role feels demanding, that’s intentional.
For the right person, this is a chance to do real accounting work — with real ownership — without US firm politics or bloat.
This role requires you to be in the Philippines. If that means relocating or flying in, it is worth checking fares before you commit to a start date.
