Senior Accountant

The ideal candidate is passionate about process improvement and excited to leverage emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to help build a more efficient and scalable accounting function.
Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries, analyses and account reconciliations
- Help maintain and improve month-end close processes, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI-enabled tools, and process improvements to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and accelerate the month-end close process.
- Respond to information requests and assist with the annual financial statement audit and quarterly financial statement reviews
- Analyze financial statements and GL accounts to ensure monthly, quarterly and annual fluctuations are in line with expectations and documented
- Prepare operational and ad hoc reporting for additional analysis associated with financial statement areas assigned
- Identify areas of financial risk and implement controls to mitigate those risks.
- Help to identify, monitor and document internal control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP

90 Day Plan
Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:
- Take ownership of preparing financial statement areas assigned to you (potential areas may include cost of goods sold, inventory, stockbased compensation, equity, operating expenses, accruals, prepaids, administrative fees, deferred commissions, intercompany and others)
- Identify at least one opportunity to streamline an accounting process through automation, AI-enabled tools, or workflow improvements that enhance efficiency and support a faster close.
- Establish strong working relationships cross functionally
Must-Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 3-4 years of experience preferably with a public accounting/private accounting mix
- CPA preferred
- Experience with one or more complex areas of accounting including but not limited to revenue recognition, inventory, stock-based compensation, debt/equity financing, business combinations or investments
- Experience leveraging automation, AI tools, or advanced technology solutions to improve accounting processes, reporting, reconciliations, or close efficiency preferred.
- Ability to read and analyze financial statements/reports
- Comfort with ambiguity and lack of formally defined processes
- Public company exposure preferred (either through Audit or industry background)
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Comfort working in a fully remote setting
