Radiology Operations Navigator - Radiology Department:

The Radiology Operations Navigator works within the Radiology Command Center and is primarily responsible for minimizing interruptions and improving workflow to allow Radiologists to focus on their primary clinical functions. The Radiology Command Center operates across multiple time zones, requiring staff to work evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays. These tasks include handling outgoing communications (such as notification of clinicians for critical, urgent, and unexpected findings) and incoming communications (phone call requests from referring physicians for preliminary findings and verbal consults). Further, the Navigator will monitor timely signing of reports, assist in monitoring turnaround times, assist in QA, and timely protocoling. Partnership with Outside facilities to facilitate and follow through on second-opinion read order requests to assist our radiologists. Support our research team with research clarification orders to help the success of our patients’ continued care. Finally, this role will partner with Imaging Informatics to ensure an effective IT infrastructure, including prompt reporting of application and network issues to IT and follow-through until issues are resolved.
The Radiology Operations Navigator in the Department of Radiology at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center plays a critical role within the Radiology Command Center in ensuring that radiology services consistently meet high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This position is responsible for overseeing the performance, efficiency, and reliability of radiology processes and imaging equipment to support accurate diagnoses and protect patient safety. The Navigator monitors compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements established by organizations such as the American College of Radiology (ACR), while also developing, implementing, and maintaining quality control and assurance protocols to ensure consistent imaging quality and patient care. A portion of the role involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to identify trends, inefficiencies, discrepancies, or opportunities for improvement within radiology workflows, and translating that data into meaningful reports and performance metrics for leadership. The analyst supports continuous quality improvement initiatives by conducting audits, addressing workflow or imaging issues, and collaborating closely with radiologists, physicians, and staff to resolve concerns and promote best practices. In addition, the role serves as a liaison between the Department of Radiology and other internal departments, as well as external facilities, to facilitate the transfer of patient imaging and reports for internal reads and comparative analysis.
