About the Position:
Cologix is seeking a Payroll Accounting Specialist to join our Accounting organization. This position will report to the Senior Operational Accounting Manager and will be responsible for reviewing and processing bi-weekly payroll for our U.S. and Canadian subsidiaries.
Key responsibilities include timecard review, payroll accounting and reconciliations, quarterly and annual compliance filings, and accounts payable activities related to benefits and payroll compliance. The role will also support year-end reporting, including W-2s, T4s, RL-1s, and vendor 1099s.
This position will also manage key Canadian payroll requirements, including filing Records of Employment (ROEs) and completing the annual vacation rollover and entitlement true-up in accordance with provincial requirements.
On non-payroll weeks, this position will provide ad hoc support to the Accounting team, as needed.
What you will do:
- Bi-weekly payroll review, payroll accounting and compliance
- Research and resolve issues; initiate corrective actions and adjustments
- Coordinates maintenance of the Dayforce payroll system
- Prepares general ledger transactions timely and accurately
- Supports the annual 401(k) audit
- Ensures annual benefits updates are implemented accurately and timely
- Organizes and maintains sub-ledger transaction files
- Ensures a timely and accurate close process for areas of responsibility
- Primary owner of the Payroll inbox responsible for addressing employee inquiries
- Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Takes ownership in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and process improvements for areas of responsibility
- Learns established processes and seeks continual process improvement while handling daily work
What makes you a good fit: (Qualifications)
- BS degree in Accounting or 5+ years of payroll accounting experience
- 4 to 7 years of related experience with payroll, benefits, compliance, accounting and audit
- Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls and quality control concepts
- Experience with Canadian payroll and vacation entitlements required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, displaying the ability to connect and build relationships with employees and other departments
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple and competing priorities while meeting established deadlines
- Process improvement mindset
- Adaptability, personal accountability, high degree of ownership and a strong drive to succeed
- Responsive and proactive with positive customer service skills
- Positive attitude with a desire to learn, understand responsibilities and improve processes
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce preferred
- French speaking is a plus
