Executive Recruiter - Public Pension Executive Director Search

AlphaGov is seeking an experienced Executive Recruiter to lead an executive director search for a public pension organization. You will work with the client’s leadership and governing board to identify candidates with the experience to lead retirement-system operations and serve the organization’s members.

This search requires a recruiter who understands public pension leadership and can distinguish overall executive management experience from a background focused primarily on investments.
What you’ll do

- Work with the client to define the executive director’s responsibilities, leadership priorities, and required experience.

- Build a targeted candidate pool across public retirement systems and relevant pension organizations.

- Engage qualified executives through direct outreach and professional networks.

- Assess candidates’ experience in pension administration, board relations, organizational management, and member service.

- Prepare candidate assessments and guide the client through shortlist and finalist decisions.

- Coordinate interviews, references, required background reviews, and offer discussions.

- Maintain clear milestones, candidate communication, and regular reporting throughout the search.

Requirements

- Experience recruiting executive directors, chief executives, or comparable senior leaders for public pension or retirement organizations.

- Established relationships within the public retirement-system community.

- Familiarity with pension governance and the distinct responsibilities of executive management and investment leadership.

- Experience advising boards or executive search committees.

- Strong research, candidate assessment, and stakeholder communication skills.
