Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Digital Marketing Industry Subject Matter Expert to contribute practitioner expertise to the enhancement of an established professional digital marketing learning programme.

This is a remote contract role covering approximately 30 working days between September and January. The focus is not on teaching or rewriting academic content. Instead, the successful candidate will act as a practitioner authority, working closely with learning designers and academic contributors to ensure that applied activities, worked examples, assessments, supporting materials, and the use of AI reflect how digital marketing is genuinely practised today.

The role requires someone who can translate current industry practice into credible learning experiences, identify the difference between competent and high-quality professional work, and help ensure consistency in applied standards across multiple areas of the programme.
Requirements

- Substantial current, hands-on professional experience in digital marketing across areas such as strategy, channels, campaign development, execution, optimisation, and measurement.

- Deep and current subject matter expertise, with the professional credibility to act as a practitioner authority on contemporary digital marketing practice.

- Demonstrated ability to distinguish strong professional work from work that is merely competent, and to explain that difference clearly to people who may not be marketing specialists.

- Strong understanding of digital marketing strategy, customer journeys, campaign planning, channel selection, content, performance measurement, experimentation, optimisation, and commercial decision-making.

- Practical experience using generative AI and other emerging tools within digital marketing workflows, with the ability to critically evaluate output and apply professional judgement to improve the result.

- Experience reviewing, developing, or contributing to professional content such as case studies, assessment briefs, worked examples, learning materials, capability frameworks, or industry guidance would be advantageous.

- Ability to review existing materials for accuracy, credibility, relevance, consistency, and alignment with current industry practice.

- Strong written communication skills and the ability to translate complex professional judgement into concise, practical, and usable guidance.

- Confidence collaborating with learning designers, academic contributors, senior stakeholders, and other subject matter specialists.

- The judgement and diplomacy to present a practitioner perspective clearly, including where professional practice and academic perspectives may differ.

- Demonstrated ability to work productively within established curriculum, project, and content constraints rather than requiring a blank-slate approach.

- Experience mentoring, developing, assessing, or evaluating marketing professionals would be advantageous.

- Experience across both B2C and B2B digital marketing environments would be advantageous.

- Previous experience leading a marketing team, contributing to professional education, or maintaining a recognised professional profile through speaking, writing, mentoring, or advisory work would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

- Work collaboratively with learning designers to translate established curriculum frameworks into applied learning content that accurately reflects contemporary professional practice.
Review and contribute to existing storyboards, learning materials, activities, assessment briefs, case studies, and worked examples, ensuring they remain current, credible, and grounded in real digital marketing practice.

- Participate in collaborative design and revie
