Commercial Cost Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Commercial Cost Engineer based in the United States (Remote).
The Commercial Cost Engineer will play a key role in shaping pricing strategies for advanced cooling systems serving hyperscale data centers and large-scale commercial infrastructure. Working closely with executive leadership, this role will develop robust cost models covering equipment, logistics, commissioning, and lifecycle services. The position focuses on OEM equipment, modular systems, and mission-critical infrastructure rather than traditional MEP estimating. You will collaborate across engineering, sales, and operations to assess complex opportunities, strengthen pricing accuracy, and protect project margins. With exposure to domestic and international projects, this is an opportunity to influence commercial decisions and help scale innovative cooling solutions. The role is well suited to an analytical, adaptable professional who thrives in a fast-moving environment and is motivated by sustainable technology.
Accountabilities:
-
Develop, maintain, and refine detailed cost models for large-scale data center cooling systems, including chillers ranging from 500 kW to 2,000 kW, Coolant Distribution Units from 1 MW to 10 MW, and precision air-handling and containment systems.
-
Incorporate controls, startup, commissioning, logistics, and service requirements into comprehensive equipment and project cost estimates.
-
Support pricing strategies for single-site installations, data center campuses, and large-scale, multi-megawatt deployments.
-
Establish and apply pricing tiers, volume discounts, and breakpoints for projects of varying sizes and complexity.
-
Account for regional variations in labor, transportation, regulatory compliance, and currency across US and European markets.
-
Collaborate with Sales Engineering and Operations to ensure pricing reflects technical requirements, delivery constraints, and practical execution considerations.
-
Analyze commercial risks, evaluate cost drivers, and support margin assessments for complex business opportunities.
-
Help standardize estimating methodologies, cost-modeling tools, and commercial pricing processes to improve consistency, scalability, and efficiency.
-
Work independently while maintaining clear communication, sound judgment, and discretion when handling confidential commercial information.
Requirements:
-
Bachelorβs degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field.
-
At least 5 years of experience in equipment pricing, cost engineering, industrial estimating, or a closely related discipline.
-
Demonstrated experience working with large-scale equipment, industrial systems, or multi-megawatt projects.
-
Strong Excel skills and the ability to develop, maintain, and interpret detailed cost models.
-
Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to assess cost drivers, evaluate commercial risks, and support informed pricing decisions.
-
Ability to work effectively with incomplete, evolving, or ambiguous project scopes while documenting assumptions and maintaining reliable estimates.
-
Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work with technical and commercial stakeholders.
-
Professionalism, integrity, adaptability, self-motivation, and the ability to balance independent work with cross-functional teamwork.
-
Preferred qualifications: Experience in data centers or mission-critical infrastructure; OEM or manufacturing-based pricing; international projects or European markets; and startup, commissioning, or lifecycle service costing.
Benefits:
-
Annual base salary: $120,000β$140,000 USD, with actual compensation depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.
-
Full-time, remote position based in the United States.
-
Flexible and autonomous work environment.
-
Fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
-
Opportunities to learn from experienced, highly skilled professionals.
-
Professional growth opportunities and potential travel.
-
Respectful working environment that values learning, collaboration, and excellence.
-
Opportunity to contribute to sustainable infrastructure and innovative cooling technologies designed to reduce energy consumption, water usage, and operating costs.
