We are looking for exceptional engineers and physicists in Korea who want to apply first-principles thinking to the structural, thermal, and RF challenges behind the next generation of chips, electronics, vehicles, and aircraft.

We welcome outstanding people at different career stages, from PhD graduates with strong applied simulation work to senior industry engineers. If you want to learn fast, work with unusually strong scientists and engineers, and see your work shape real design decisions at leading companies, Flexcompute offers a rare environment in which to grow and do your best work.

About Flexcompute

Flexcompute is the physics company. We exist to make the real world computable. Created by engineers from MIT and Stanford, we build trusted, GPU-native physics simulation and AI-powered engineering technology for teams designing aircraft, vehicles, chips, and photonic systems. Our technology is used by more than 250 companies and academic institutions, including innovators such as Anduril, BETA Technologies, Coherent, Hermeus, Joby Aviation, Northrop Grumman, Samsung, and Xanadu.

Our products span fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, photonics, geometry, and multiphysics workflows. We work at the frontier of physical modeling, numerical algorithms, GPU computing, high-performance computing, AI, and engineering automation. The goal is not speed at the expense of physics. It is to make previously impractical, high-fidelity engineering work fast enough to shape real design decisions.

About the role

You will work with engineering teams at customers in Korea on hard structural, thermal, and RF problems. Some of the Flexcompute technology you will use is mature and in daily production use. Some of it is new, and you will help shape it: benchmarking it against established tools on real customer problems, finding where it needs to improve, and turning what customers need into product requirements.

You will focus on one or more of these domains:
- Structural mechanics: thermal stress, warpage, CTE mismatch, and the reliability of packages, boards, and assemblies.
- Thermal: heat transfer in chips, packages, and boards, from device-level hot spots to package-level temperature maps.
- RF and electromagnetics: antenna and microwave design, S-parameter extraction for interconnects, packages, and boards, and signal and power integrity.

Much of this work sits in semiconductors and advanced packaging, where structural, thermal, and electrical effects are coupled. Experience in one domain, plus curiosity about the others, is the right starting point.

What you will do
- Understand challenging industrial problems, identify the relevant physics, and formulate an appropriate simulation strategy.
- Build, run, validate, and interpret simulations, and compare results with measurements, reference data, or established tools.
- Lead technical evaluations and benchmarks with customers in Korea, from problem definition to final results.
- Put new Flexcompute solvers through demanding customer cases before wider release, and report clearly where they match, beat, or fall short of established tools.
- Investigate unexpected results, convergence behavior, modeling assumptions, boundary conditions, mesh sensitivity, and discrepancies with experiments.
- Create clear and reusable Python workflows, examples, benchmarks, and technical demonstrations.
- Train users and deliver technical presentations and workshops, in Korean and in English.

- Collaborate with customers, application engineers, product teams, and solver developers. Translate user needs and physical insight into actionable product feedback.
- Take ownership of difficult, ambiguous problems and drive them toward a trustworthy result.

Two profiles can be equally successful

Application-oriented profile. You have deep physical or engineering understanding, practical simulation experience, strong communication skills, and enough programming ability to automate workflows and investigate problems rigorously. This is the profile we expect most often in this role.

Scientific-computing profile. You are stronger in numerical methods and technical computing and may contribute more deeply to algorithms, performance, meshing, or simulation infrastructure.

We do not expect one person to cover both profiles equally. Exceptional strength in physics and applications can compensate for less advanced computing experience.

Where you will work

This role is based in South Korea and is offered as an independent contractor engagement. Flexcompute does not have an office in Korea, so this is a remote role with regular visits to customer sites in Korea and occasional travel to our headquarters in the Boston area. Our product and solver teams work across several time zones, so some meetings will fall outside standard Korean working hours.

Who you are
- You have an MSc or PhD in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, materials science, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field, or a BSc in one of these fields with several years of hands-on simulation experience in industry.
- You have hands-on experience with numerical simulation in at least one of structural mechanics, heat transfer, or RF/electromagnetics, using commercial or in-house tools.
- You have strong foundations in physics, mathematics, or engineering and can reason from first principles about why a result is right or wrong.
- You can write practical scripts, preferably in Python, to automate work, analyze data, and test ideas.
- You communicate fluently in Korean and work comfortably in English, both written and spoken.

- You have the right to live and work in South Korea without visa sponsorship, for example as a Korean citizen or permanent resident. We are not able to sponsor a Korean visa for this role.
- You are motivated by real engineering problems, product impact, and industrial applications, and you show unusual ownership, persistence, and intellectual curiosity.

What can demonstrate exceptional ability

We care about evidence of ability and genuine technical interest, not one prescribed career path. Strong signals may include:
- Industry R&D: simulation work in semiconductors, electronics, displays, automotive, aerospace, defense, or energy that directly informed a design decision.
- Application engineering: experience at a simulation software company or in a technical consulting role, supporting demanding users.
- Applied research: work that connects modeling with experiments, measurements, or a real physical system, including publications.
- Personal or open technical work: simulation tools, automation, open-source contributions, or a demanding project built independently.

We are most interested in what you personally designed, simulated, built, tested, debugged, or improved.

Experience that would be useful

Any of the following would be valuable, but none is required across the board:
- Semiconductor packaging and reliability: 2.5D/3D-IC, chiplets, HBM, warpage, solder joint and interconnect reliability, fatigue.
- Electronics cooling and thermal management for chips, servers, or power electronics.
- SI/PI, EMI/EMC, antenna design, or PCB and package-level electromagnetic analysis.
- Commercial simulation tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Icepak, FloTHERM, HFSS, SIwave, Sigrity, CST, ADS, or COMSOL.
- Numerical methods for PDEs, meshing, optimization, or uncertainty analysis.
- C++, GPU computing, CUDA, or high-performance computing.
- AI or machine learning applied to engineering, simulation, or technical data.

How you will be successful
- Your simulation work is physically sound, reproducible, and useful for an engineering decision.
- Customers come back to you with their next hard problem.
- You can distinguish a modeling issue, a numerical issue, a workflow issue, and a product issue, and involve the right people.
- You make difficult technical topics clearer for customers and colleagues and improve the workflow around each case.

Hiring process

Application review, a first call with our talent team, a technical interview with our engineering team, and final interviews with our leadership. Interviews are held in English over video.

How to apply

Please send us your CV in English and a short note describing one difficult technical problem or engineering project you worked on. Tell us what you personally contributed, what made it difficult, and how you knew your result was correct or useful. Describe your work only at a level you are free to share, and do not send confidential information belonging to any current or former employer or customer.

Please do not include a photo, date of birth, marital status, or family details in your CV.

We welcome applications from people who do not match every item above. If you have exceptional evidence of technical ability and a strong interest in physics simulation, we would like to hear from you.

Why Flexcompute is an exceptional place to build your career
