Backend Software Engineer
About the Role
We're a small, cross-functional engineering team building cloud services that power a fleet of enterprise-deployed Android devices. As a Backend Software Engineer , you'll own core infrastructure โ from scaling and reliability to over-the-air (OTA) update pipelines โ that makes mobile products usable at enterprise scale. You'll work across the full product surface, translating real customer requirements into production-ready, reusable solutions.
This is a high-ownership role on a tight-knit team. You'll write design docs, lead reviews, shape development practices, and ship code that matters.
What You'll Do

Build and maintain backend services supporting a Mobile Infrastructure as a Service platform.

Work across the stack โ from Android OS and apps to CLI tools, dashboards, and provisioning automation.

Architect web services to meet demanding scale and reliability requirements.

Enhance and operate core over-the-air (OTA) update infrastructure.

Design and implement authorization and security models for web services.

Translate customer-specific requirements into generic, reusable backend solutions.

Architect and build new web services and internal tooling.

Write design one-pagers and lead design reviews with the team.

Conduct peer code reviews and help shape team development standards.

Build and maintain test automation and CI/build management pipelines.

Drive new product development and write public-facing API and feature documentation.

Collaborate with international teammates and contribute to DevOps efforts as needed.
What We're Looking For
Required
-
3+ years of software development experience, with 2+ years focused on cloud and backend systems .

Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and web services .

Demonstrated experience scaling web services in production environments.

Hands-on experience with AWS (or comparable cloud platforms such as GCP or Heroku).

Proficiency in at least one backend programming language/stack (e.g., Java, Python, or Node.js ).

Experience with testing and test automation.

Strong CS fundamentals or equivalent professional experience.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Authorized to work in the United States (US citizen or valid US work visa). Visa sponsorship is not available.

Based in or willing to work on-site in Seattle, WA .
Nice to Have
-
Familiarity with server-side JavaScript / Node.js and the Express framework.

Experience with JavaScript ES6+ testing frameworks (e.g., Mocha, Chai, Sinon).

Exposure to front-end JavaScript frameworks such as React.

Knowledge of the Android ecosystem , APIs, and development tools.

DevOps / configuration management experience (e.g., Ansible or similar).

Practical knowledge of Git and CI/build tooling.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $100,000 โ $150,000 USD annually, depending on experience.

Location
This is an on-site role based in Seattle, WA, USA . Candidates must be located in Seattle or willing to relocate. Visa sponsorship is not available โ applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
