Associate Medical Affairs Manager

Working as part of the Medical Affairs department, the Associate Manager, Medical Affairs is an individual contributor role supporting delivery of the US medical strategy and building the company's scientific credibility with optometrists, ophthalmologists, other eyecare professionals, and patients. Reporting to the US Medical Lead/Head of Medical Affairs US, this role focuses primarily on medical communications, scientific/medical writing, and serving as a core reviewer in the Medico-Legal Review (MLR) process to ensure promotional and non-promotional materials are accurate, substantiated, and compliant. This is a hands-on role for a self-directed, agile professional who can take ownership of deliverables and execute with minimal supervision while partnering cross-functionally with Marketing, Regulatory/Quality, New Product Development, and Commercial.

While this is a remote role, an Eastern location is preferred for optimal collaboration with our East Coast and Europe based team.

Key Responsibilities
Medico-Legal Review (MLR) primary focus

- Serve as the medical/scientific reviewer within the MLR process for promotional and educational materials, ensuring claims are accurate, balanced, referenced, and substantiated.

- Verify claim-to-reference linkage, annotate materials, and maintain audit-ready documentation of review decisions.

- Partner with Regulatory and Legal reviewers to reconcile feedback and independently drive materials to approval within agreed timelines.

- Proactively identify and improve MLR workflows, SOPs, and reference/claims libraries without waiting for directions.

Medical Communications & Medical Writing

- Draft, edit, and fact-check scientific and educational content for internal and external audiences, bringing a US medical affairs perspective to existing content.

- Develop and maintain standard response documents, FAQs, and slide decks, and support patient case study development with medical and marketing colleagues.

- Conduct literature searches to support internal concepts, materials, and medical information responses.

Medical Information
- Support responses to medical information queries and help build/maintain the FAQ and standard-answer database, including customer channels such as Zendesk.

Education & Professional Affairs

- Support development and delivery of educational content for eyecare professionals and contribute to CE-accredited education efforts.

- Support generation of content for HCP resource platforms (e.g., a professional website).

Compliance & Strategy Support

- Ensure compliance with applicable national laws, regulations, industry codes, and company policies across all materials.

- Support the US Medical Lead in executing the medical strategy and tactical plan and stay current with relevant therapeutic areas.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in a science or technical field required; advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MSc, OD) desirable.

- Certification or degree in Optometry or Ophthalmic technology is a plus.

Required Experience & Skills

- 3โ€“4 years of relevant experience in medical affairs, medical communications, or a medical communications agency.

- Prior hands-on experience in Medico-Legal Review (MLR) is required.

- Demonstrated strength in scientific/medical writing, referencing, and content fact checking.
