Accounting Manager – Remote | GAAP, QuickBooks, Month-End Close & Payroll

About the Role
At Pavago, one of our clients is hiring an experienced Accounting Manager to own financial reporting, month-end close, payroll, and core accounting operations across complex client accounts.
This is a hands-on accounting role — not basic bookkeeping or data entry. You’ll manage accrual-based accounting, multi-entity financials, payroll, sales tax compliance, AP/AR, and reporting while ensuring financial records remain accurate, organized, and audit-ready.
If you have strong GAAP accounting, QuickBooks, Excel, payroll, and multi-entity accounting experience , this role is a strong fit.
What You’ll Own
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Execute accurate and timely month-end close processes
- Prepare and maintain financial reports and supporting schedules
- Maintain clean, structured, and audit-ready workpapers
- Ensure financial reporting follows GAAP/accrual accounting standards
- Identify and resolve reporting discrepancies

General Ledger, AP & AR
- Maintain general ledger accuracy across multiple entities and locations
- Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities
- Review account activity and resolve discrepancies
- Ensure accounting records remain complete and accurate

Payroll & Employee Setup
- Process payroll using Gusto or similar payroll platforms
- Manage employee setup and onboarding within payroll systems
- Maintain accurate payroll documentation
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule

U.S. Sales Tax & Compliance
- Calculate and file U.S. state sales tax
- Monitor filing requirements and deadlines
- Maintain organized supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance activities are completed accurately and on time

Reporting, Analysis & Forecasting
- Build custom financial and management reports
- Support budgeting and forecasting
- Analyze financial data and communicate meaningful insights
- Create reporting and data visualizations to support decision-making

Process Improvement
- Review and document accounting processes and SOPs
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements
- Standardize workflows across clients, entities, and accounting systems
- Build more accurate and scalable accounting processes

Client & Leadership Coordination
- Communicate regularly with leadership regarding priorities and deliverables
- Support client-facing financial communication when required
- Maintain visibility into reporting deadlines and outstanding items
- Proactively identify and escalate accounting issues

Must-Have Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting or finance experience
- Strong experience with accrual accounting and GAAP financials
- Experience managing multi-entity, multi-location, or multi-segment accounting
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Desktop, or Enterprise
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
- XLOOKUP
- INDEX/MATCH
- Pivot Tables
- Data Tables

- Hands-on payroll processing experience with Gusto or similar systems
- Experience with U.S. sales tax filings
- Strong understanding of financial reporting and month-end close
- Excellent written and verbal English communication
- High attention to detail and financial accuracy
- Comfortable working remotely during U.S. business hours

Nice to Have
- NetSuite experience
- Familiarity with ADP or Paylocity
- Experience with Ramp or Bill.com
- Familiarity with Clockify or similar time-tracking systems
- Background in outsourced accounting or client-service accounting environments
