The Irons Web Development builds and maintains WCAG-conformant websites for U.S. fire departments. As our client base grows, we're hiring a detail-obsessed accessibility specialist for PDF remediation and manual WCAG 2.1 Level AA review. What you'll do: Remediate PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Pro: tag structure, reading order, alt text, table markup, form fields, document language, bookmarks. Validate with PAC and/or veraPDF. Perform manual WCAG 2.1 AA review on websites: keyboard navigation, focus order, screen reader behavior, contrast, ARIA, alt text. The parts automated scanners miss. Build clean, factual reports: issues documented by success criterion with counts, severity, and specific fix notes. Only what you've verified, no guessing. You must have: Solid knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA success criteria. Hands-on Adobe Acrobat Pro PDF tagging and remediation experience. Manual testing experience with screen readers (NVDA/VoiceOver) and keyboard-only navigation. Strong written English for client-facing reports. Precision and honesty: you never mark something "pass" that you didn't actually verify. Nice to have: PAC, veraPDF, axe, Pa11y, Lighthouse; ADA Title II / Section 508 familiarity; basic HTML/CSS to describe fixes. To apply: Start your message with the word ENGINE so I know you read this. Then tell me (1) your Acrobat PDF remediation experience, (2) one WCAG criterion people commonly get wrong, and why, and (3) your weekly availability. Strong applicants get a short paid test: remediate one sample PDF and flag issues on one sample page.
