Technical Lead - AI Automation Systems (Remote, China)
BJAK is using AI, automation and backend systems to improve end-to-end insurance operations. The work includes customer data flows, insurer approvals, document requests, policy issuance, endorsements and claims follow-ups.
We're looking for talented Technical Lead / Lead Software Engineers based in China to design and build scalable AI-powered automation systems for insurance workflows, including policy issuance, claims processing, approvals, document handling and system integrations.
This is a fully remote position where you'll collaborate closely with our Malaysia-based engineering, product and operations teams to deliver end-to-end automation systems with high reliability and operational impact.
The Mission
Lead engineering efforts that transform manual, fragmented insurance processes into scalable, reliable and fully automated systems powered by AI and backend workflow logic.
What Youโll Own
-
Lead delivery of AI-driven workflow automation and backend system initiatives end-to-end.
-
Translate complex operational and business problems into clear system designs and engineering execution plans.
-
Design backend architectures and workflow systems for multi-step insurance processes.
-
Define and implement system logic for approvals, state transitions, document flows and policy lifecycle automation.
-
Review architecture, code and implementation quality to ensure correctness, scalability and reliability.
-
Mentor engineers and raise overall engineering standards, system thinking and delivery quality.
-
Work closely with product, operations, QA and DevOps to deliver complete, production-ready systems.
-
Improve system stability through monitoring, debugging, root cause analysis and production issue resolution.
-
Ensure high-quality releases with strong operational awareness and minimal production risk.
What We're Looking For
-
Strong software engineering experience building production systems at scale.
-
Proven experience leading technical delivery of backend or full-stack systems.
-
Ability to break down complex operational workflows into system design and implementation plans.
-
Strong understanding of backend architecture, APIs, and distributed or workflow-based systems.
-
Hands-on engineering mindset with ability to still contribute to code and technical implementation.
-
Strong judgment on system design trade-offs, complexity and delivery risk.
-
Experience working with cross-functional teams including product and operations.
-
Strong communication skills and ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Calm under pressure when handling production incidents or tight delivery timelines.
-
High ownership mindset with strong follow-through from design to production.
Bonus Points
-
Experience building workflow automation systems, SaaS platforms or enterprise backend systems.
-
Experience with event-driven architectures or state machine-based systems.
-
Experience with AI/ML-enabled workflow or decision automation systems.
-
Knowledge of Node.js, Python, Java or similar backend technologies.
-
Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and production monitoring systems.
-
Familiarity with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing).
-
Experience scaling systems in fast-growing or high-transaction environments.
-
Contributions to system architecture decisions in previous roles.
The Kind of Builder We Want
-
Thinks clearly about how business processes map into system architecture.
-
Hands-on technical leader who engages deeply with code and system design.
-
Stable, structured and dependable under pressure.
-
Focused on real-world operational outcomes, not theoretical engineering.
-
Honest about risks, trade-offs and system limitations.
-
Actively drives root cause fixes and long-term system reliability improvements.
-
Builds systems that engineers, operations and product teams can trust.
