Structural Design Engineer
About the Role
ORS are seeking a Structural Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team, delivering innovative structural solutions across complex projects in sectors including life sciences, semiconductor, industrial and commercial developments.
You will be responsible for the structural analysis and design of steel, concrete and other structural systems, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality engineering solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while continuing to develop your design expertise and progress towards Chartership.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver structural analysis and design for a range of building and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare structural calculations, design reports and technical specifications in accordance with relevant design standards and Eurocodes.
- Produce and review structural designs using Robot Structural Analysis, Tekla Structural Designer, IDEA StatiCa and other engineering software.
- Coordinate designs with BIM models using Navisworks and BIM360/Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
- Work closely with BIM Technicians, Architects, MEP Engineers and project teams to ensure coordinated design delivery.
- Ensure compliance with BIM Execution Plans, document control procedures and company quality standards.
- Attend design coordination meetings and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with clients, contractors and other stakeholders to resolve technical queries and support project delivery.
- Undertake site visits and inspections to review construction progress and provide engineering input where required.
- Contribute to the design of complex structural systems, including steel and reinforced concrete structures.
- Support junior engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Stay up to date with industry standards, software developments and engineering best practice, while progressing towards Chartered Engineer status where applicable.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant Level 8 structural engineering degree
- Proficient and Experienced in Robot, Tekla, IDEA StatiCa, NavisWorks
- Proficient in working on BIM360/ACC platforms
- Knowledgeable and respectful of compliance with Doc Control and BIM Execution protocol
- Dynamic, energetic, good team player, good communication skills (verbal, e mail, Teams messaging
- Solid construction/consultancy experience
- Structural engineering experience.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proactive mindset with a desire to continuously learn and develop
- Good communication skills
- Team player
Desirable Requirements
- Chartered or Registered status (or working toward it)
- Experienced working on semiconductor, life sciences/pharma, large scale projects would be a significant advantage
- Good structural analysis and steel design experience and advantage
- Experienced in seismic analysis an advantage
- Experienced in dynamic/forced vibrations also would be an advantage but not essential.
- Experienced in working on international design codes would be an advantage but not essential.
