About Foundation for Black Communities
The Foundation for Black Communities (FFBC) is Canada’s first and only philanthropic foundation dedicated to investing in and supporting Black communities. Since launching in 2020, FFBC has granted over $30 million to more than 400 Black-led, Black-serving, and Black-mandated organizations across Canada. Through our Black Ideas Grant, Strategic Partnerships, Investment Management and other initiatives, FFBC provides the necessary resources to support essential programs and services that reach hundreds of thousands of Black Canadians every year.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Communications & Marketing Manager will lead FFBC’s strategic communications, brand management, marketing initiatives, media relations, and public engagement efforts. This leader will play a leading role in shaping and telling the story of FFBC - reinforcing its identity, increasing visibility, and amplifying its impact across Canada.
They will develop and execute integrated marketing and communications strategies that grow awareness, engage key audiences, and strengthen relationships with community stakeholders, media, funders, and the public. Working cross-functionally, the Senior Manager will ensure FFBC’s voice is clear, consistent, and values-aligned across all platforms and initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Brand Development
- Develop and implement an integrated communications and marketing strategy aligned with FFBC’s vision and mission.
- Shape and refine FFBC’s brand identity and visual presence across digital and print channels.
- Manage and monitor FFBC’s content calendar and coordinate cross-functional messaging to support fundraising, advocacy, community outreach, and public education.
- Ensure alignment between FFBC’s public messaging and the broader philanthropic and social impact landscape.
Media Relations & Public Engagement
- Serve as a media contact and develop media strategies to position FFBC as a trusted thought leader.
- Write press releases, op-eds, and speaking notes; support the CEO and executive team in media appearances and keynotes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, sector peers, and strategic allies to amplify our work and voice.
Digital Strategy & Content Development
- Oversee FFBC’s digital presence including website, newsletters, and social media.
- Lead content creation and storytelling initiatives that highlight grantee impact and organizational priorities.
- Track and evaluate analytics to optimize performance and audience engagement.
Campaigns & Events
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns to support funding calls, major announcements, and events.
- Provide communications and promotional support for FFBC-hosted convenings, grantee showcases, and community events.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, mentor, and grow a communications and marketing team.
- Manage external vendors and consultants for design, web development, and PR as needed.
- Develop annual workplans and KPIs for communications and marketing efforts; track performance and report to leadership.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Experience & Skills
- 7–10 years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector.
- Proven ability to lead integrated campaigns, shape public narratives, and build brand recognition.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills — able to shift tone across mediums and audiences.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams, vendors, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency in digital platforms (social, web CMS, CRM/email, SEO/analytics tools).
- Media relations experience and a deep understanding of Canada's media landscape.
