Apply on original site โI'm looking for a bookkeeper that can take on sporadic bookkeeping work as needed.
My goal is to start gaining clients that need bookkeeping services in the near future. Initially, the hours may be very limited. The work for one client might only be one day a month, while other clients may eventually need work weekly or several times a month.
I'm looking for someone that is interested in starting with limited hours and growing with us as we gain more bookkeeping clients.
What I'm Looking For
You must be familiar with U.S. accounting and bookkeeping practices and be comfortable working with multiple small business clients.
You should be familiar with:
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Transaction categorization
Chart of accounts
Accounts receivable and accounts payable
Reviewing and correcting bookkeeping entries
Basic financial reports, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet
Catch-up and cleanup bookkeeping
Keeping good notes and documenting work performed
QuickBooks Online and/or Xero experience is a big plus.
This position is for bookkeeping only. You will not be responsible for preparing or filing taxes, and you will not be responsible for payroll.
Schedule and Communication
This is not a full-time position, and there are no guaranteed weekly hours right now.
Work will be assigned as clients need bookkeeping services. Some months may have more work than others, especially as we build this part of the business.
Most work can be completed independently, but you must be available for occasional phone or video calls for training, instructions, questions, and discussions about client accounts.
You must be fluent in both written and spoken English and comfortable communicating clearly when you have questions.
I would rather you ask a question than guess about how something should be entered into a client's books.
Equipment
You must have your own:
Reliable computer
Reliable internet connection
Webcam and microphone/headset
Private place to work when accessing client information
Your computer must be kept up to date and secure. You may be required to use MFA, antivirus/security software, or other security tools when accessing our systems or client accounts.
Client Confidentiality and AI
You will be working with confidential client and financial information, so protecting that information is extremely important.
AI usage is not prohibited. You may use AI tools to help with general questions, writing, research, Excel formulas, or other productivity tasks.
However, client information cannot be entered into public AI tools.
This includes client names, financial information, account information, transactions, documents, screenshots, reports, login information, or any other confidential information.
If you're unsure whether something can be put into an AI tool, don't put it in.
You will also be expected to follow our security and confidentiality procedures when accessing client systems and information.
What I'm Looking For Long-Term
I'm not looking for someone just for one project.
I'm building bookkeeping as an additional service that we can offer our small business clients. The amount of work will depend on how quickly we gain clients that need the service.
I'm looking for someone that is okay starting with sporadic work and potentially growing into more consistent work as we add clients.
Accuracy and reliability are more important to me than rushing through the work. I also need someone who will document what they did so that we have good records, especially if you only work on a particular client's books once a month.
When Applying
Please answer the following questions:
How many years of bookkeeping experience do you have?
Do you have experience doing bookkeeping for U.S. businesses?
Which bookkeeping/accounting platforms have you used? Please describe your experience with QuickBooks Online and/or Xero.
Have you handled catch-up or cleanup bookkeeping before? If so, briefly describe
