Full Stack Developer (Next.js + Supabase)

About HireSA HireSA is a direct-hire remote talent marketplace connecting employers in the US, UK, and Australia with vetted South African professionals. We run on a flat monthly subscription model and are scaling fast post-launch. The core platform is already built, and we're looking for a developer to own our backend and lead the next phase of growth. The Role We need a full-stack developer who thinks in systems, not tickets. You'll own the backend end to end, database, auth, security, and integrations, and handle whatever comes up across the rest of the platform. This is a high-ownership, high-trust role: you'll be trusted with production infrastructure and expected to make sound architectural calls independently. Part-time and contract to start, with steady ongoing work as we scale. What You'll Own Backend architecture on Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Storage), including schema design and database migrations Designing and auditing Row-Level Security (RLS) policies so data access is airtight across employer and candidate roles Building and maintaining API routes in our Next.js App Router setup Third-party integrations (payments, email , media, and more) Contributing to our React 19 / TypeScript frontend as needed Staging/main branch discipline, PR review, and deployment on Vercel We're also continuously improving an AI-powered matching feature. It's not the core of this role, but experience with AI/LLM integration is a plus and there may be opportunities to contribute. Requirements Proven track record with marketplace applications, ideally job boards, hiring platforms, or two-sided marketplaces. This is a strong preference, not a nice-to-have. Deep experience with PostgreSQL and Supabase (or a comparable backend-as-a-service), including authentication and RLS Strong command of Next.js (App Router), React 19, and TypeScript in strict mode Hands-on Stripe integration experience, subscriptions, webhooks, and moving safely from sandbox to live production Security-conscious with auth, secrets, and payment flows Comfortable owning infrastructure independently and communicating clearly async Must be very familiar with claude code but not rely on it Clear written English; we run on Slack Nice to Have Experience integrating AI/LLM APIs (OpenAI or Anthropic); recommendation or matching systems, embeddings, or vector search a plus Email automation and data pipelines Background in recruiting tech, HR tech, or job board platforms (marketplace experience is a plus too) Experience reconciling multi-branch environments and managing schema drift across staging and production Product design or product management sense South Africa based Details Contract, part-time, remote, need-to-work basis with steady ongoing work as we scale Reasonable daily overlap with US business hours preferred How to Apply Send your resume, GitHub/portfolio, and a short cover letter explaining a marketplace or matching system you've built and what made it work.
