Remote | Freelance | Paid per Reel | Ongoing work Parenthood is an established Australian parenting podcast looking for a talented Freelance Social Video Editor to create engaging, dynamic Instagram Reels that promote our podcast episodes. This is NOT simply an editing role. We need someone with an excellent instinct for storytelling and hooks who can independently watch/listen to a long-form podcast episode and identify the moments that will make someone stop scrolling and think: “I need to hear the rest of this conversation.” You’ll be responsible for taking an episode from long-form conversation to a polished, compelling social trailer. What you'll do For each episode, you will: * Watch/listen to the podcast episode and independently identify the most compelling, funny, emotional, controversial or intriguing moments. * Select a strong opening hook that immediately captures attention. * Turn those moments into a dynamic 45–90 second Instagram Reel/episode trailer. * Edit podcast studio footage alongside relevant photos and video sourced from the guest’s public social media channels. * Creatively integrate B-roll and supporting visuals so the Reel feels dynamic rather than simply like clips from a podcast. * Add engaging captions, text overlays, transitions and other creative elements where appropriate. * Understand the context of the conversation and ensure clips accurately represent what the guest is saying. * Edit content specifically for Instagram/social media retention and engagement. * Incorporate feedback and reasonable revisions. * Deliver final assets within agreed deadlines – this is very important The most important part of this role We can find people who know how to edit video. What we're really looking for is someone who knows what to edit. You need to be able to recognise the moments within a longer conversation that will resonate with our audience and make people want to watch or listen to the full episode. You won't simply be given timestamps and asked to assemble them. We want someone who can bring their own editorial judgement, creativity and ideas to each episode. Who we're looking for Someone who: * Has excellent storytelling instincts. * Understands hooks, pacing and social media retention. * Has strong English comprehension and can pick up on humour, emotion and nuance within conversations. * Understands Instagram Reels and current short-form editing styles. * Has experience turning long-form video, podcasts or interviews into short-form social content. * Is creative and can make talking-head/podcast footage visually interesting. * Has strong attention to detail, particularly around captions, names and audio. * Is highly organised, reliable and consistently meets deadlines. * Can work independently without needing highly prescriptive briefs. * Communicates clearly and flags any issues early. * Is open to feedback and able to make revisions efficiently. Experience editing podcast, parenting, lifestyle, entertainment or interview content would be highly regarded. Location This role is **fully remote**, and we're open to working with talented editors anywhere in the world. You will need reliable internet access and the ability to work within agreed deadlines aligned with our Australian production schedule. Freelance arrangement This is an ongoing freelance position and will be paid per completed Reel. The volume of work will vary depending on our podcast production schedule, with the opportunity for regular ongoing work for the right person.
