The Executive Director serves as a senior scientific and business leader responsible for shaping scientific strategy across multiple client portfolios while advancing the long-term capabilities of the Scientific Services organization. This individual functions as a trusted advisor to clients, internal leadership, and cross-functional teams, driving scientific excellence, strategic innovation, and organizational growth.
Beyond leading client engagements, the Executive Director plays a critical role in developing scientific talent, establishing best practices, advancing Scientific Activation™ capabilities, and identifying new opportunities that strengthen Decera's position as a strategic partner to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Scientific and Client Leadership:
- Lead scientific strategy across multiple client portfolios and therapeutic areas
- Serve as a trusted scientific advisor to executive-level client stakeholders
- Ensure scientific excellence, strategic alignment, and quality across client deliverables
- Anticipate emerging trends and translate them into innovative scientific solutions
Strategic Growth:
- Lead scientific strategy for strategic growth accounts, helping establish and expand long-term client partnerships
- Identify unmet client needs and develop new scientific solutions and service offerings
- Partner with Business Development and Client Services leadership to drive account and new business growth
- Lead scientific strategy for major proposals, pitches, and business development initiatives
People and Organizational Leadership:
- Develop and mentor future scientific leaders
- Establish scientific standards, best practices, and scalable ways of working
- Champion innovation, including AI-enabled scientific workflows and new capabilities
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives that strengthen Decera's long-term growth and culture
- Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and scientific excellence that enables individuals and teams to thrive
Education and Qualifications
- PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent advanced scientific degree
- 10+ years of medical communications or related pharmaceutical experience
- Demonstrated success leading strategic scientific programs, executive-level client relationships, and scientific teams
- Proven business development experience, including strategic account growth and proposal leadership
- Exceptional scientific communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills
Travel/Hours Requirements:
· Up to 20% of the time
· Domestic and international travel
- Position may require work outside of normal business hours including nights and weekends
