Emergency Department Medical Coder
This is a remote position.
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Coding Specialist to accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for emergency room encounters - No Injections and Infusions or E/M - Mostly diagnosis coding and procedures. This remote role is ideal for coders who excel in independent work environments and are motivated by performance-based compensation. Coders will be expected to maintain high productivity and quality standards while navigating complex documentation across multiple specialties.

- Code emergency department charts, including trauma cases, urgent care visits, and procedural documentation
- Apply coding guidelines to ensure compliance with payer and regulatory standards
- Maintain productivity targets (average 10 charts/hour) and quality scores above 95%
- Communicate with QA teams to resolve discrepancies and improve accuracy
- Keep up-to-date with ED-specific coding changes and best practice
Requirements

Certification : Active AHIMA or AAPC Certification (CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA) required.

Experience : Minimum of 2 years of emergency department coding experience

Technology : Proficiency with EPIC and 3M 360 platforms.

Knowledge : Familiarity with ED workflows, documentation styles, and coding nuance

Skills : High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and excellent communication. Proven ability to meet high-volume productivity goals. Experience with remote coding systems and per-chart compensation models
