Apply on original site ↗Marie International School (MIS) is seeking an experienced and passionate Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher or Secondary Homeroom teacher to join our growing Primary and Secondary Department at our Omotesando Campus in Tokyo.
This position is available for an immediate start or as soon as possible, with initial training and onboarding provided before the candidate assumes full teaching responsibilities.
We are looking for a skilled educator who can confidently teach upper primary or secondary students across core subjects, including Language Arts, Science, Global Studies, and Wellbeing.
Many of our students are already highly proficient in English. The successful candidate should therefore be able to extend and challenge advanced learners while providing appropriate support for each student’s individual needs.
The ideal candidate is not only an effective classroom teacher, but also a positive and proactive team member who can adapt to change, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to the wider school community.

Main Responsibilities
* Teach the Grade 6 or Secondary homeroom curriculum in English, including Language Arts, Science, Global Studies, and Wellbeing
* Plan and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and support upper primary or secondary students
* Differentiate instruction according to students’ abilities and individual learning needs
* Use assessments and evidence-informed teaching strategies to monitor student progress
* Maintain clear, respectful, and consistent classroom management
* Collaborate closely with fellow teachers and school leaders
* Communicate professionally and effectively with parents
* Prepare student reports, assessments, and classroom documentation
* Plan and teach Afterschool or subject-specific classes when required
* Participate in school events such as Sports Festival, Halloween, seasonal programs, and community events
* Contribute to the planning and smooth operation of school-wide events
* Participate actively in staff training, meetings, committees, and school development initiatives
* Support areas such as student safety, child protection, health and wellbeing, cleaning, and the learning environment
Requirements
* Fluent or native-level English proficiency
* A minimum of two years of experience teaching primary or secondary school students
* Experience teaching upper elementary students is strongly preferred
* Confidence teaching multiple academic subjects in English
* Strong lesson-planning, assessment, and classroom-management skills
* Professional, reliable, flexible, and able to work collaboratively
* A proactive and growth-oriented mindset
* Willingness to contribute to school events and responsibilities beyond classroom teaching
* Based in Japan or willing to relocate to the Tokyo area
* Available to begin work as soon as possible
