Job Description:
The Director of Software Engineering will lead a portfolio of healthcare interoperability products and help advance the shared services capabilities that support NextGen’s long-term technology strategy. This role is responsible for overseeing the full software development lifecycle for a large API solution and multiple interoperability products and platforms across a variety of technology stacks and deployment models. The Director will drive engineering strategy, operational performance, and team development in a matrixed environment while continuously improving developer experience, advancing AI-native engineering practices, and enabling scalable interoperability solutions across the enterprise.
- Lead engineering strategy and technical execution for the interoperability portfolio by defining technology roadmaps, architecture standards, and development practices aligned to business objectives, scalability requirements, and long-term platform goals.

- Oversee the full software development lifecycle for a large API solution and multiple interoperability products and platforms across varied technology stacks and deployment models.

- Build, lead, and develop high-performing engineering teams by recruiting, mentoring, coaching, and retaining managers and individual contributors while fostering accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

- Establish and mature the engineering operating model by directing resource planning, prioritization, capacity management, delivery governance, risk management, and support processes.

- Oversee software quality, security, and regulatory compliance to ensure engineering practices support healthcare industry standards and applicable requirements.

- Partner with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, Engineering leadership, Customer Support leadership, and other cross-functional stakeholders to define priorities, advance shared capabilities, and deliver solutions that support enterprise objectives.

- Collaborate with senior leadership to define and monitor metrics that measure team outcomes, delivery health, organizational maturity, and business impact.

- Drive technical transformation initiatives, including self-service interoperability tooling, developer experience improvements, and AI-native engineering practices across the Interop organization.

- Partner with Customer Support leadership to define and refine support policies, procedures, and escalation practices to ensure effective coverage across U.S. and India time zones.

- Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience Required:

- 10 years of experience in Software Engineering.

- 5+ years of leadership experience in engineering or technical management roles within Healthcare IT.

- Experience in the healthcare IT industry, with knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and applicable regulatory requirements.

- Experience with multi-team planning and coordination using the Scaled Agile Framework or a similar operating model.

- Experience working with Scrum, Kanban, or similar agile delivery methodologies.

- Experience managing multiple teams across different technology stacks and deployment models.

- Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Knowledge of: Software development lifecycle principles, engineering delivery models, and modern software engineering practices, including AI-enabled and AI-native approaches.
