About the Role
Opentrons is looking for an Automation Sales Executive to own and grow our UK territory. Owning your territory means building your own pipeline, running your own sales process and being accountable for the territory quota.
Visiting labs across the entire life sciences space from early research through to startups, biotech companies, and the world's top pharmaceutical companies. You will find yourself working with scientists in labs who are just taking their first steps into the world of automation as well as scientists and engineers already working with cutting edge automation platforms.
The Automation Sales Executive reports to the Sales Director EMEA. This is a remote field sales position, requiring at least 50% regional travel in your territory.
What You Would Do
- Own and nurture a full-cycle sales pipeline from prospect and qualified lead to demo to final sale.
- Proactively create new opportunities in your territory, going after business nobody else has found yet, while effectively selling and supporting your existing account base.
- Sell Opentrons' full product portfolio (robots, modules, consumables, reagents, services) to a defined customer base, presenting with the same confidence whether the room is a single lab scientist or a global pharma procurement team.
- Use Salesforce to maintain a clear and accurate sales pipeline, truly understanding the importance of a detailed forecast with close dates based on commitments not optimism.
- Push past objections and treat a "no" as the start of the next conversation, not the end of it.
- Learn from every setback or lost deal, sharpening and evolving your approach to maximise your success in selling, and share that knowledge to help level up the whole team.
- You'll build strong relationships across the Opentrons commercial team, including Field Applications, Field Service, Sales Development, Product, and Marketing, and your voice-of-customer feedback will materially shape the next generation of Opentrons products and services.
Who We Are Looking For
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, preferably in a life-science discipline
Experience:
- 3+ years’ experience in a full-cycle sales role in the life sciences industry
- Liquid Handling experience is strongly preferred
- NGS, Proteomics, or similar sales/experience strongly preferred
- Strong track record of exceeding sales goals
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- A demonstrated track record of building pipeline from scratch, not just growing an inherited book of business.
- While you'll be selling robots and automation, you'll be dealing with real people throughout. We're looking for someone who can navigate the entire sales process, from building genuine rapport with a scientist taking their first steps into automation, to holding your ground in a hard-nosed negotiation with a procurement team, to staying composed when
