Fancy working on real UK company accounts instead of another BPO production line?
If you'd rather get stuck into real UK client work than push numbers through a template for someone else's client, this is worth a read. You'll be preparing accounts and tax returns for UK limited company clients as part of our production team, with enough continuity that you'll build real familiarity with the same clients year after year, rather than starting fresh every time.
Who you'd be joining:
Cheltenham Tax Accountants is a UK accountancy firm โ proper cloud-based practice, not paper files and post. We're a team of 15 across the UK and the Philippines, and our Philippines side is led by Karen, who runs day-to-day support and every initial interview, so you'll actually know the person on the other end from day one.
We use Xero, Apron, Karbon and Office 365 โ no clunky legacy software to wrestle with. And we mean it when we say we invest in people for the long term: this isn't a role we expect you to burn out of in eighteen months.
The role:
You'll work within our production team, with Karen assigning the jobs โ taking on annual statutory accounts, management accounts, and corporation tax returns (CT600) for the clients assigned to you, with real continuity, since we aim to keep the same person working the same clients year on year. You'll liaise directly with clients and the UK team to sort queries and keep things moving, and you'll be trusted to manage your own workload rather than have it managed for you.
You don't need to have worked in a UK practice before. An audit background is actually preferred โ that kind of rigour, structure and attention to detail translates well here. UK-specific requirements (GAAP, CT600, the way we do things) will all be trained โ what matters more is a solid few years of accounting experience and the right way of working. Xero experience helps but isn't essential โ we'll get you up to speed.
What you'd actually be doing:
- Accounts and tax โ preparing statutory accounts and CT600 returns for the clients assigned to you, start to finish.
- Management accounts โ regular reporting for clients who need more than just year-end figures.
- Client and team contact โ you're not hidden away; you'll speak directly to clients and the UK team to resolve queries and keep delivery on track.
- Keeping things tidy โ accurate records and working files, done the way the firm expects, so anyone picking up your file knows exactly where they stand.
What we're hoping you bring:
- At least 4โ5 years' accounting experience โ an audit background is preferred, though a practice background works too
- UK GAAP, limited company accounts and CT600 aren't expected coming in โ full training provided
- Xero experience is a bonus, not a requirement โ training's provided
- Genuinely conscientious โ the kind of person who notices when something doesn't quite add up
- Comfortable working independently without someone checking in every hour
- Strong written and spoken English, since a good chunk of the job is communicating clearly with clients and the UK team
- Qualifications: a CPA qualification, plus a bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Accountancy, Banking or equivalent.
The practical bit:
This is fully remote and full-time โ 35 hours a week, 13 pay periods a year (multiply your per-period salary by 13 for the annual figure). We do need a daily overlap with the UK team โ 10amโ12pm UK time, which is 6pmโ8pm PH time โ so the rest of your hours are yours to arrange around that.
You'll need your own decent PC or laptop, solid home internet (8mb download / 1mb upload or better), and a proper workspace to do this job from โ this is a real, permanent role, not a side hustle you fit in between other things.
Probably not for you if...
You want zero client contact and to just process numbers in isolation
You'd rather stay behind the scenes than talk to clients
